Great tip. I did have some trouble following because I’m seeing it backwards (facing you) and your fingers do hide some of it. But I think I’ve got it now. Thank you for an awesome lesson.

Thanks. You can still use it to lock down cargo when you’re traveling if it’s secured with a half hitch after you tighten it. The toggle simply keeps you from having to pinch the lines to apply the half-inch. Now, that’s assuming the toggle doesn’t somehow slip off under tension!

That was a great idea. Wish I would have known that one when my son was in Scouts.

@@Dirttimechannel We are doing great, we live way up North of Coeur D Alene Idaho now. If you make it up here to the North Country look me up. Plenty of trout and few Elk looking for a home in the freezer.

Another way of describing it is, instead of saying "wrap the free end around the toggle twice", to say "wrap the free end around the loop immediately above the toggle twice".

I love this idea so much, but it did not work as well as I hoped. It worked well for moderate tension, but at high tension, the toggle sprung loose. I really want this to work, so I'll try it again. Any tips for success under high tension?

I was using rope. I'll see if it's better with paracord.
@davidwallace3933

Update: paracord seems to work easier, but I've gotten it to work with rope if I change the way I wrap around the toggle to provide less friction. Also, I've found that holding the toggle with a marlinspike hitch instead of a loop is even more secure under high tension. I love the advantages of using the toggle. Thank you for sharing.

Cool trick! How easy is it to take apart?
@Dirttimechannel
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Silver Bullet... It takes apart very easy, just unwrap the line from the toggle. Additionally, if you release the other end of the ridgeline first, it relieves all the tension in the hitch and collapses everything. Me, personally, I use a halter hitch for the other end, so when I pull on the tag line, it all falls apart.

If it uses a toggle, it's not auto-locking. It's toggle-locking!
