The only way this stops is when drivers and companies do a massive stoppage of hauling until rates are where they need to be. If everyone stopped hauling for under 4 or 5 bucks a mile, the shippers would pay it. Right now they laugh at us because we are hauling for garbage money and they know it.

Too many foreigners and immigrants in the market. Sadly this will continue until the industry bottoms out. Immigrants can sustain themselves on much less than the average American can. @@markhunter3263 operating expenses and living expenses are two different things. They can afford to operate at a lower cost because they’re living expenses are substantially lower than the average American. Take your mortgage and divide it by 10. That’s what they’re paying to live. Take your utility bill and divide it by 10. Take your grocery bill and divide it by 10 because that’s what it cost them to feed themselves. @@jimmyconway6080 I don’t know if that behavior would be limited or exclusive to immigrants. Any owner operator can choose to pay themselves less and put all their income towards expenses. And generally speaking, if a company can operate with lower costs than its competitors, they are going to be more successful. That’s the basis of the capitalist market we all participate in. Other drivers aren’t your coworkers. They’re your competition. If they can run their business cheaper, then they’re doing it better. Now, that being said, why they’d choose this business if they’re effectively making minimum wage is beyond me.

Since this fallout in the past 2 years I have worked for 5 different carriers and all of them were a fleet of 20 trucks or less. None of this was my fault. 3 of them said they were phasing out the company driver positions and transitioning into lease operator (which I believe is a scam) so I was forced out the door. One company just flat out said they were done can't be in business anymore so let me finish out the work week then I return the truck come to find out he didn't pay me my last pay check. Last guy I worked for everything was working ok then my truck had motor issues (cracked liner) so he had to let me go because he couldn't afford 25 Grand or more to rebuild the motor. I'm done with trucking guys. It's a bad industry with a bunch of scammers liars and very unstable work. I love the freedom and driving a truck but the true American truckers is gone. RIP trucking.

Good lord did you actually say anyone actually starts their truck for $1 a mile? Paid fuel, maybe? Driver, well we'll short that guy/gal making up a reason to pay less? Dam, insurance is due, hmm not happening! Truck and or trailer payments due, song n dance time! All those pesky fees & they are endless, not now! This isn't looking good if 44 yr old companies are calling the goose cooked. Glad you're keeping us updated 👍, holding off on running the unit bought a year ago used. Sticking to w2 at the moment in Upstate NY salvage hauls are slowing down, it's a concern when 50-60 hours a week get closer to 40.

@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News Biden declared war on big oil on day 1, thus raised the costs of transportation dramatically in a very short period in which industry has left alot of companies behind. Reefer fuel, tractor fuel, oil, cost to manufacture etc etc etc. It was a non natural up tick that was caused by the swipe of his left leaning liberal agenda!!!!!

How did Biden declare war on oil if the amount of barrels of oil per day produced during Biden's reign has reached a historical high? It's currently the highest it has ever been, so I am a bit perplexed as to where the declaration of war occurred

Oh wow, you really don’t understand capitalism and how it works. The mega corporations and the global elites look for the lowest cost work source labor force they can find and then they exploit it and they stay filthy rich. It’s not Republican or Democrat. It’s called greed you need to get your head out of your ass and realize how capitalism works.😂😂

Cry me a river. Truckers always whining about not making enough money. Then quit and go to construction. They are using railways to haul the freight. That needs to be cut down. They should ban on the train that carries our loads. They can do coals or other stuffs but not containers and dry vans. Somebody should stop their functionality.
