Your comments on winter driving with a 40k load sound like me when I was a teenage driver. In winter conditions I had no fear and felt in control. I loved the feel of breaking the rear loose or spinning brodies. Always impatient with those more cautious than I when following following them. I would as you feel comfortable traveling at the speeds you suggest while going forward. It's when you need to stop that's the problem. It's one thing to be rear ended by a Prius, but another by a tractor trailer. Best of luck driving with your over confident attitude and I hope I don't see you in another video of Bonehead Truckers.

I drove a truck for a two truck company for 2 months in 1988 (so clearly I'm an expert 😂). I waited out the snow in a truckstop in Ohio. The company owner said I should have kept moving like his other driver. The other driver wrecked in the same storm. For that and other reasons, I am no longer a truck driver. I am really glad some people tougher than me still haul the goods that we need.

I think you were wise to wait out the storm. No load is worth your life or someone else's. Also never out-drive your abilities. Just because a vehicle is rated to do something doesn't mean YOU can do something. Mountain Man Mike has 20-Plus years of experience driving in snow in mountains. And of course the only way to learn how to drive in snow and ice is to ACTUALLY Drive in snow rain or ice as well as listening to advice from those who have done it for years. We learn by doing. But you're not born with that experience. That only comes over time.

Hi Mike; A song I came to love (God on the Mountain) when I had it" into the wind" between Calgary and Vancouver,( Highway thru Hell) You may be familiar with it. Here's a line or two, "Life is easy when you're up on the mountain, you've got peace of mind like you've never known. But things change, when you're down in the valley, don't lose faith, for you're never alone". Keep the Faith Bud.

You mentioned about Oregon not pumping their own gas and flipping out about having to do that themselves. My state of New Jersey doesn't pump gas either, but recently changed the law allowing the option to pump one's own gas. Most of the 10 million Jerseyians don't pump and I don't pump either. I stay in Jersey so I don't have to worry about it.

I thought Oregon left it up to the driver as to whether or not to use chains? FWIW, I learned to drive in the snowbelts of the northeast, and we NEVER used chains (well, maybe a farmer or 2, but that was more for mud..). Whenever I used to head to the Pacific NW, I aways tried to cross the mountains in Oregon, just to avoid having to hang-iron. Here in the northeast, we always make certain we have good lugs on our drive treads. A lot of west-coast drivers prefer non-lugged drives, because they ride better, make less noise, and give better fuel economy, with the downside being that you must hang iron anytime it snows.

I loved it then pumping gas but they don't have all kinds of help at these gas stations you pull in there to get gas you got to wait on them to come out especially in the wintertime you know you don't want to stand out there and pump gas just sit in your vehicle and you don't stay warm I say cuz I grew up in California what I moved to Oregon I loved it somebody else pumping my gas like I said specially in the winter time Mercy now I live in Iowa but I don't drive here I don't like pumping other peoples gas either because I have to pay people to take me places they pumped her own damn gas I'm not doing it I thank you for this video be nice if you put one out tomorrow or even every day be pretty nice my only entertainment I have I can't afford cable

I have lived in Oregon all my life. We still get our gas pumped for us for several reasons. It employs more people yes, no matter the economy, but it is also safer in many ways. Have you ever watched people at stations for any period of time? Some aren’t so bright. Rarely do people drive off with the nozzle still in. Less to no spillage. Also I’m handicapped I can’t do my own. Try getting help in another state. Also our prices aren’t much higher here. Try California prices and you have to pump your own. Just letting you know. The videos are great. Thank

I'm so glad u never trained me bc u practice such poor driving technique. Tailgating that car was not necessary. That driver was exercising caution where u were not. U drive according to the conditions, not speeding or tailgating. So what if u have people behind u. What's the big hurry? Ignoring the chain laws in effect is ignorant & stupid. Doesn't matter if u want to put chains on, blinking lights were on = chain laws in effect.
