Egg fruit is distantly related to durian, and the one you have might not be quite as ripe as it could be. I usually sprinkle a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg on it, which when it's fully ripe it tastes kind of like a cross between sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie filling, and it's usually not super sweet.

Omg I love egg fruit!! I make it a point to eat it everyday whenever I'm in Hawaii. 😋 I think you have to try a couple to really see if you like it or not because it depends on the fruit like some are sweeter or softer than others etc. But it isn't a very pungent or super savory fruit, it's kinda subtle compared to other fruit flavors. It is very custardy when very ripe. 😊 Gosh I miss Hawaii and egg fruit so much. 😭

If you make a slurry, and you didn't stir it, water will separate from the cornstarch. Now if you'll throw the water, you'll be left with wet cornstarch, that's exactly the texture of Tiesa just with a tiny bit of sweetness. I don't hate it but how are you supposed to enjoy eating it?
