The sweet and sour sauce for the lumpia is typically the base for the bola-bola (meatball) sauce, so it's totally fine to dip one in the other Also, we use forks for noodles, pasta, and anything stringy. For rice and all else, spoon it is.

By the way, we do use fork when eating pancit (noodles) or pasta like spaghetti so it's okay that you did 😉 we use spoon usually when we eat rice and other food with sauces or those soup-based. And adobo (& most dishes) may be on the salty side so we balance it with plain white rice. But i can't blame you if you just want to savor that adobo goodness all by itself 😊 it's that good, right? 👍it's arguably the Philippines' national dish 😊

The spoon is used for grains and mushy food as well as a substitute for the knife (cutting food chunks with the edge of the spoon). Most dishes are more flavorful to be mixed with the bland rice. It's normal to combine dishes together onto one spoonful so that the flavors mix together in varying amounts. Ask the restaurant staff how to use the condiments and dipping sauces to counterpoint different flavors: sweet+sour, sweet+salty, sweet +starchy, sweet+savory, sour+salty, sour+starchy, sour+savory, salty+starchy, salty+savory, or more combos.

Bola-bola literally means balls balls. Yes, us Filipinos like to exert things, lol. But srsly it basically refers to “meatballs” and made in many different ways in the Philippines. The one that’s nostalgic to me is bola-bola in soup with fine noodles.

OMG! That pork adobo looks so so good. If you are not big with eating rice you can substitute it with mashed potato (I mean you have to make the mashed potato yourself or buy it somewhere lol). And lumpia is really good when it's still hot/warm and crispy.
@1911Zoey
2 жыл бұрын
Just unseasoned mashed potato would do since the adobo is already savory. You can opt for a tasty one tho but it might be too overwhelming depending on the timplada of your adobo.

FYI Whenever you eat Filipino food you MUST eat rice with it. Actually the rice would be more of the main meal and the rest of the food would be eaten to balance it. "Rice is life." Filipino food is generally sooo savory, fatty, or salty that you would eat smaller amounts of it with a good serving of rice to balance it out along with various sauces like a vinegar based sauce to cut the fat. If you ever have halo-halo don't forget to mix all the ingedients together before consuming it. That's how it should be consumed. Halo-halo literally means mix-mix.
@rccflicks6102
2 жыл бұрын
The meaning of "Halo Halo" is "many things are mixed up together." It is not a verb. "Haluin" is a verb that means to mix. I suggest to keep on scooping the ingredients under to taste them and let them mix naturally. If you mix the whole thing right away, it will all just melt fast into a watery melted dessert. Just like ice cream, It just tastes better if it's not melted yet.

its too bad you did not eat with rice. Most filipino dishes are savoury and saucy and thats why the rice is needed to balance the flavour. But its your choice but if you ever try a filipino dish that you dont like...try it again with rice and then you'll get what i mean. But even dishes you like will also taste better with rice like that adobo sauce on rice is the best.

Yes, we do love sweet-tasting cuisines but you know what, we Filipinos actually don't like overly sweet preparations. We also have our own discriminating taste for sweetness just like you. So Filipino cooks and chefs make sure that foods prepared are not overly done with sweetness but just the right amount of saccharine tinge to it. That noodle dish is called Pancit Canton Guisado. PANCIT is a Filipino general term for any noodle cuisine. CANTON is a type of noodle used in a pancit dish. From thinnest to thickest noodles respectively, we have Miswa, Bihon, Canton, Miki and Miki XL. On the other hand, the word GUISADO, is the type of preparation used in cooking the pancit dish. BOLA means ball much like the Spaniards call. So Bola-Bola means plurally Balls like meatballs. Enjoy your vacation and stay safe as always.

I find rice so unnecessary. I hate it cause I was force fed it! So, for a long time, I would eat Filipino food without rice. Now, I'll have to have it, but I only still eat it sparingly when eating the other Filipino food especially when it's plain boring white rice! But when you have Filipino food that has a lot of sauces, then yes! You need rice, but with sisig, pancit, lumpia, soups... Rice I find is so unnecessary!
