You use the price tag sticker to close the bag of candy... Fold the bag opening once and tape it with the sticker. It is also in a nice place for the cashier and you don't have to think about the candy bag opening in the shopping bag. Win-win.

Tyrkisk Peber is a candy made by the Finnish company Fazer. It is the platonic ideal of salty liquorice. It is so popular that you can go to any store even in Sweden, and find it.

Few things: You can't go through Finnish pastries without mentioning Mokkapalat. As i live in Tampere we have this thing called Mustamakkara (black bloodsausage) not served elsewhere in Finland and modernly we're the chickenwingscapital of Finland :) Finnish people have always also loved stews especially the Karelianstew. Not to mention the yearly Joulukinkku.

Most berries are actually summer activity, picked in July and August. Cloudberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, bilberies, various currants, etc. If you think about bilberries (European blueberries, that is), the season is usually starting towards the latter half of July, which is the most summerish time of summer in Finland with temps going up to 30C if it's a good summer. Still, some of them are available quite long. Of course there are important real autumn berries as well, like cranberry, lingonberry, and sea-buckthorn.

Karjalanpiirakat (or Karelian pies by some sources) go great with butter and eggs. (Butter and eggs preferably mixed.) Whenever I stay at a hotel for my job, my breakfast consists of Karjalanpiirakka with some eggbutter and bacon, salad too if available. And coffee.

Irtokarkki might come cheaper if you can take same amount that ready packed candy bags have but you need self control of a monk to be able to do that 😂😂 my irtokarkki bags are always full. Like 1-2kg full 😂 sure it’s cheaper compared to that you’ll buy same weight of prepackaged candy but usually when buying ready bags you’re only going to take the one bag and with irtokarkki you might get little too excited 😂😂

You should do a video about experiencing christmas in Finland like christmas markets, events or opening of a christmas street (many cities have their own christmas streets). Most events start already in november because finnish people are crazy about christmas. And shops will be full of everything christmas.

One thing that almost anyone from Kotka would recommend you try when it comes to baked goods, would be the Posso. It's unfortunately not something you really find much outside Kotka, though. At first glance, it might look just like a Munkkipossu, but it's quite a bit different, thinner, and filled with apple jam. Every bakery around Kotka makes them, and it's some delicious stuff.

@6:40 you should use the price sticker to seal your candy bag after fold or to in a way you can still scan the barcode on it, this is if you aren't gonna eat them like while walking out of the store, so your candies aren't all over your other bags even if you fall due ice or something.

You seem to enjoy pastries quite a bit, so I'd like to suggest one that I've been eating pretty much my entire life. My dad is a bit of an outdoorsy type, so he's been bringing us self picked berries by the bucket every year, mainly blueberries, lingonberries and cloud berries. My absolute favorite has always been the lingonberry one, and while I don't have my moms secret recipe, this one from Arla comes pretty close: www.arla.fi/reseptit/puolukkapiirakka/ Then there's my absolute favorite way to have fish, which is loimuttaminen. You take a plank of wood, staple a filet of fish, preferably salmon, on it, angle it closeish to an open fire and just sloooowly let it simmer to perfection. This leaves the fish very juicy on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside. There are guides a plenty floating about the internet as to how you might want to season the fish, and there are also sour cream based sauces that you can make that just fit the fish so well. The fish is enjoyed with baked potatoes. Just wrap some large potatoes in aluminum foil, bury them in the embers of a fire, unwrap after 30min and enjoy. It's the very best way to enjoy potatoes in my opinion, feel free to add a dash of butter and salt on them as you eat, or maybe some chanterelle flavored "sulatejuusto" (

Careful dude.. You said that you did not like at first and now it is ok.. will not take long before you miss it a lot if going back visiting home.. including (salty) liquorice :D Do not know about Australia, but at least in USA I so missed the so much flavour full bread that we have here in Finland, I find that the bread itself needs to be a part of the flavour in addition to toppings, not just white non-nutritional fluff.. Be it reissumies or a Crusta-kind of bread. Personally I do dinner 18-21.. not 17. :)

Hi Tim, your Finnish pronunciation is unusually native-ish. You must have a good ear. Once you get the hang of the notoriously complex grammar*, you'll be golden. *And don't be too hard on yourself - most native-tonguers seem to struggle with it, too.

Also, if you want to get more flavors in your blueberry porridge, Tim: why not mix in some lingon and sea buckthorn berries, that's what I do
