I got a stuck bolt on my jeep for the hub. There's 3 bolts. I got 2 out but ended up stripping the 3rd one. I've tried extractor sockets, torch, hammering smaller sockets on and I even used a dremel to cut a slit in the top of the bolt to try using a large flathead. None of it worked, just kept stripping it more and more. After messing around for almost 8 hours trying everything under the sun, I bought one of these and got it out in about 30 seconds. Definitely worth the $20.

Tool is a life saver, had a badly rounded, rust-seized water pump bolt in between the frame, just enough clearance to loosen it a bit with this, then was able to get it out the rest of the way with vice grips. Would have never been able to get enough torque with any other tool.

It's supposed to be designed to work with an impact gun also without tightening but I like your approach with the loosening using the larger nut first. I bought the Titan version a decade ago and it has worked flawlessly on broken mani studs, gas tank strap bolts and studs in exhaust flanges. I still use a torch first and lots of penetrant. I'm doing a frame rail stud right now and it's a stubborn SOB. Impacts are your friends folks.

I've ordered the Sealey version of this tool for some exhaust studs that are practically WELDED into the header of my '99 Honda Hornet. They sheared off years ago and I didn't have time to fix it during that gasket change, so I'm doing it on this gasket change. I don't want to take the engine out of the bike to remove the studs, so I'm hoping this works for me. The studs are on the underside of the engine with the front wheel in the way, so quite difficult to get at and a bit of an awkward angle for penetrating oils, but I have used Liquid Wrench to hopefully work into the thread (totally plugging Liquid Wrench, it has saved my ass so many times since discovering it, best rust penetrating oil I've found).

Ben--Over time you learn not to do things like this as soon as they happen. If possible, spend some time thinking about it before attempting to remove/repair it yourself. One thing to keep in mind is if you don't have the tool (or tools) needed already on hand to do the job, you likely don't have the expertise to perform the task. Also, have a back-up plan to undo the damage you may cause when trying something for the first time. Some jobs are simple, others are deceptively so, which gives you the false impression you can repair something. If you're determined to do it, however, research the job here on KZitem and/or Google before proceeding. If you try removal and after a few turns it locks up, STOP; find out WHY it locked up before going farther. If you can't figure it out, tighten the bolt back up and let someone else do the job who knows why. Just remember, there's no shame in having a mechanic do the repair if you don't feel comfortable doing it; it saves a lot of time, money and embarrassment later.

@@stever5887 This is excellent advice. How many 2 day jobs turn into 2-week jobs because I got upset, impulsive, and started doing something that made it worse. It is extremely hard, but sometimes you need to STOP, take a look at what is going on, get out from underneath the car, clean up, and go do some thinking on the issue, and some internet research (from those with more experience) before continuing. If you just plow through whatever your doing, you'll being trying to make it better, but you'll make it worse! And those hard lessons you remember, and you take that with you as wisdom.

Is there a difference between the AutoCraft and Performance TooI version other than a $5 difference in price? I think the larger nut on the Autocraft version is a 1 1/2" so a open end wrench or box end works if you don't have the adjustable spanner of that size. If this saves you once or twice from having to drill extract and rethread it's well worth the cost. #wrenchingitforward #torqueitforward

Do you think that would work on a broke off head bolt that only has about 1/4" protruding from the block? Cast iron block and the end of the bolt sticks into the water jacket so it's most likely really corroded in place. Grade 9 bolt

welded nuts to the studs on a 350 of the donut gasket were the manifold bolts to upper exhaust. well i welded 2 nuts n got 2 out with a torch n impact. 3rd stud will not break free! i tried 4 times welding a nut to it and got all the penetration a fella could give to the old girl but i just break off more n more of the stud im now down to a a big qrtr inch of stud left just enough to try another welded nut. ima grab one of these n give it a shot. worst come to worst ill drill the stud out from the top n re thread it.
