You may really want to consider putting up the top plates and squaring the walls before you put up the headers for the doors and windows. Because if you put up the headers first, for the doors and windows, when you go to square the walls, it could buckle the windows and door area and throw off your measurements.

Good morning sunshine’s, I love you all. God is so good. My sister in law passed away yesterday. My brother had told us she was not doing good for the last year. She wasn’t even 50 yet but she was so loved. She is with Jesus now and not in pain anymore. God is taken care of her now. I am gloriously happy.

During ice storms we always had at least 20 gallons of drinking water and the bathtub full of water for flushing. We also had rain barrels. Came in handy lots of times. We didn’t have a generator and cooked on the wood stove, used kerosene lamps for light.

I grew up in NH, as a kid our well wouldn't work either if the power went out ...My mother would fill the bathtub, so the toilet could be flushed w/ buckets of water, and heat water to wash with. But the water eventually seeped out of the tub through the drain..so she would tape over the drain in addition to having drain closed to make sure all stayed in the tub. Hope this helps some

Would it work to put a hand pump to be able to get water from the well? So at least you can still have water to use. You could still put water in the tub and just heat it up. When I was a kid and we did not have hot water to bathe we just warm it up on stove. I know it would be a lot of work but maybe that will help for now.

I realize you are just trying to get something going on the power for now, but I have a suggestion for you! It's going to cost you a little up front, but I think it would solve all your issues and save a lot of hassle! Bare with me and don't say no immediately! Out by your power pole, where your meter is, put an automatic generator big enough to run your whole house and the well. Guessing 22kw or maybe less and get a big propane tank near it to run it! That way you don't have to buy gasoline, the generator automatically comes on if you lose power and cuts off automatically when power comes back on! You will need to save your bucks, but do it once and you should be good except for maintenance now and then and refilling the tank of course! You could also use it as back up down the road when you get solar! Just a thought!

Me again Buy new windows for several reasons. 1) if they don't have enough for the whole house you will end up with different styles and brands through your house. 2) if you put a used window in and have to replace it a few years down the road manufacturers have the habit of changing sizes every once in awhile so it might be expensive to get on made to fit opening. 3) Like Gary said there might be some defects in and could be expensive to fix and like he also said about the R value of the window. You have got a good head on your shoulders man.

Take a look at this and see what an ice storm looks like and the damage it can do lol The Worst Natural Disaster in Canadian History (Ice Storm 1998 )During this period everybody pitched in I had a neighbor come along and pump water out of our basement (3 ft) I found out where I could get 5 gallon pails of Kerosein I got 3 and hand out what anybody needed for lamps. we had a airtight wood stove and so did the in laws so I took extension cords got head lights and put two in our half of thew house and two in theirs and hooked them to the battery of my truck and started it every 5 hrs. when i got ahold of a generator i plugged in all out freezers and fridges and the TV so we could see what was happening.

Kids talking reminds me of the 70s. My aunt would be driving in those big 70's cars. Her kids would be fighting or whatever. She would drive with her left hand and do a reach around with her right arm. She would start swinging her arm, trying to smack them. No seat belts were required back then, so kids would duck around, trying to avoid her arm and hand. It was funny but now it would not be funny. The kids would be laughing cause she couldn't reach them. They would end up getting spanked at our destination. This video brought back memories.

A country girl here, if our pump went kaput we would tap the water heater 'till Grandpa got the pump fixed. There is a tap at the bottom of the tank, I think you have a 40 gallon tank. On demand heater people better keep those blue jugs full 'cuz it looks like ya'll are in for some weather.

I watch Ryan Ya'll weather channel and I saw this Arctic blast is headed right for Arkansas. I know about no hot water; my water heater went out. The only thing I use gas for is the hot water heater so, I boil water for dishes and take a "hobo bath" LOL ! It's not the most convenient but it works till I can afford a hot water heater. Which by the way will cost about $600 + having it installed. I love going to Habitat 4 Humanity for certain things. I really think you all are moving right along on he cabin build.
