Love the vids homie I've put together a few of these together, instead of using water, I've used gasoline instead and wont cause rust your valves and I usually just wait 10-15 mins for leaking. Keep it up homie!

Ring gap can get smaller. Smaller with heat y’know. So it’s always better to be a little loose than a little tight. Too tight means busted pistons, little too loose means extra blow by.

I had the same Problem with a Valve spring compressor the stupid Pin would always fall out u just clamp the Pin in ur vice and smash one end with a Hammer that expands the end so it won't through anymore.
@friguy4444

I'd say Do it right . Do it as good as you possibly can so that it can take whatever you throw at it! It will be worry free then and if you decide to build it with a larger Turbo or whatever it will be able to take it. IMHO.

Use petroleum instead of water to see if valves are seated properly. Petroleum flow thru a lot more so you´ll see if there is gap.

If you're going to hone the cylinders then just replace the rings.
@danielplumley379
2 жыл бұрын
I was also questioning this...Joel said he wanted to put the same rings back in the same direction and same cylinder but if he is honing the block it doesn't even matter at that point...better to get new rings bc they are cheap and good insurance! Also, he can get rings and make a ring gap that he actually wants.

for the valve spring tool handle that keeps falling off just wrap a bit of tape around each end so it cant slide off ;)

Joel, i love your content and I am super excited for this rebuild, I want to do one myself for an e30 in the future but with a different engine. Since I am in Europe I plan on having an very early old school m10b18 and then turbo it on a e30 Baur chassi.

Is the engine 2.0 or 2.5 liter?
@imnota
2 жыл бұрын
I don't know what block he has decided to use but the block he had was originally a 2.5L block but the cylinders were bored out (made larger) to 86 or 86.5mm (can't remember) compared to the stock 84mm, he also has a 3 liters crank (from e46 330i or e36 M3, US model) so it was like 3.1L or something like that. Also btw the 2.0 is only in Europe and Australia, they don't have those in the US.

Take one end of the lap stick off and put it in a cordless drill on low speed bro it doesn't harm the seat and doesn't take an entire day too do.... Bunch of people who have never rebuilt an engine will tell you not too but don't listen to them... And remember the hone is to clean the walls up and leave a cross hatch your not trying to remove material from the bore itself so don't be worried about it I've watched what you can do and I'm sure you'll be fine

A little suggestion for the pin to not fall out. Grab a hammer and flatten one end of the pin at first, then insert the pin in the tool and flatten the other end so it's locked in there 👌 Hope it'll help you.
