Labour is set to take a tougher stance on transgender issues, with plans to make the ban on puberty blockers for kids permanently.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting aims to stop powerful hormone blockers from being given to children, pending a legal hearing's outcome.
Victoria Atkins, his predecessor, had already banned these blockers from being supplied to children by private or off-shore clinics through emergency legislation before the general election. This ban is set to expire on September 3.
Now, Labour plans to extend the ban indefinitely. Streeting emphasised, “We will always prioritise children’s safety,” and highlighted Dr. Cass’s review, which found insufficient evidence to prove puberty blockers are safe for under-18s.
