Rail Disasters is a Train Simulator series simulating and recreating the events of real world train accidents.
Episode 19: More Runaways along Cajon
Part 1: 1994
On December 14, 1994, a Santa Fe intermodal train en route to Los Angeles loses it brakes along the summit grade becoming a runaway and colliding up a Union Pacific coal train just at the bottom. Though no one was killed, investigators found that the cause was kinks in the air hoses that triggers the brakes.
Part 2: 1996
On February 1, 1996, a Santa Fe manifest train from Barstow, CA to Los Angeles loses its brakes along the same summit and becomes a runaway. The conductor and brakeman are killed while fleeing with the engineer staying in the cab. The train ends up derailing at a curve at high speed. Investigators find that the cause was just similar to what happened more than a year before.
NOTE:
The consist are not fully accurate and I needed the BN in the 1994 for power & the Santa Fe GP9's since I had no GP50's in Santa Fe livery. So please don't complain
