Georgian cellist-composer Sulkhan Tsintsadze wrote his series of Folk Pieces on Georgian Themes in 1950, following in the footsteps of previous composers like Schumann and Bartok who'd written 'classical' works, inspired by folkloric music from their own countries. He certainly knew how to navigate writing for cello! The 3rd movement, Sachidao is chock-full of treacherous double-stops, ricochets, left-hand pizzicatos and vigorous singing lines!
Pierre Fontenelle - cello
Katsura Mizumoto - piano
Filmed in Brussels, Flagey Concert Hall (20 march 2022) for the finals of the Concours Breughel (where I had the pleasure of receiving 1st prize, Public prize, and Best Interpretation prize)
