Excellent, plain-language, questions from the host and straight-forward, transparent answers from the guest who isn't just pushing is his product, he seems to really want the investor to do what's best for them if it's with his product or not. Check APLS on a 1 or 2 day basis for scalping Apple downtrends. The "come-on" of these huge "dividend" payments in these funds are a lure to get you to stay "invested" while the position value deteriorates relative to the asset price. Your "dividend" is likely largely coming from YOUR OWN MONEY.

Well, I have probably invested WAY too much into this fund, but oh well. Here's the thing. The fund has had a pretty good history now. The fund trades in a range which pretty well matches how Tesla trades. Wait for the lows around 13/14 and do your buying. Of course, it could go lower, but so far that's been a pretty solid strategy. I know it's the holy grail, but I just SO wish somebody could strike a perfect balance between huge returns and stability.

But incase not I have the remaining 25/25/30 in jepi/jepq/qqqm which is definitely gonna be guaranteed growth and income. And that pie is 50% allocation with the other 50% being a diversified real estate portfolio yielding 10% average dividends. Most of the downside risk with a cap on your upside profit. The monthly dividend income is also taxable as normal income, no special tax treatment. Also, when an investor buys shares, what do the managers do with the income? Invest in Bonds? Or invest in buying calls? Also, there isn’t a distinction between upwards volatility and downwards volatility but it seems like upwards volatility is actually a double positive on covered calls, correct?

I can't give financial advice and whether to take income vs reinvesting is a personal choice. I don't own TSLY. Investor funds are used to buy options in this fund. Thanks for your feedback. Not sure which trades you're referring to but if it's the traders paying for the high option premiums (that generate the dividends), they're buying calls to speculate on Tesla's upside. That's been a very profitable bet for some traders if they were able to time it well. They occasionally score huge wins when Tesla has a big run. The option seller (TSLY) gets a small win each time (the option premium) and gives up the upside of those large price spikes.

I also work for a bank and have to preclear all of my trades via an electronic system. It's a pain, but usually isn't a big problem. Of course, I'm stuck in #CLF and can't sell it at the moment (because someone, somewhere at the bank is apparently doing business with them). Stinks because I wanted to sell it when it was up, and now it's below my cost.

Haven't gone to the whole video yet but as far as Jay's answer to caring about the price of TSLY comparing to high dividends, I would say that once your dividend amount is equal to or exceeds the price you paid, then maybe your nav is 'less of a factor' in owning the fund. Meaning you got your money back and now you're just playing with other people's money. Hopefully I'm right in thinking that. Also, you should get it out of your mind that you are going to make 100% returns annually. You would be better off waiting for the nav to come down between an $11 - $18 range. Then buy in. You won't get that 100% div return upside but you can still do a consistent 25% to 50% with a lower nav erosion.

Great video! It appears to me that if you assume TESLA is not going out of business or having a substantial change to their valuation forever, you still end up a tiny bit ahead at around a 30% drop (that assumes you reinvest the Div and that volatility is somewhat constant and yes that factors in taking @70% off the lower value).

It's an interesting math equation...how low can TSLA go before the dividends don't make up for the loss...I can't calculate the answer because the recovery of TSLY after a correction is path dependent...ie heavily affected by the rate at which TSLA recovers.

His answer on how a GFC or Pandemic would affect liquidity is about just one of his funds. In fact I believe you would need to look at how many of these funds, option income, are doing the same thing and there is far more of a liquidity risk than anyone is counting on during the next major disaster. I cannot find how much the amount is but I imagine it is far more than the world could come up with to cover the required liquidity. I hope I am wrong but I cannot find the total amount that is tied up in these similar funds world wide.

@themusic6808

TSLY isn’t a “dividend stock” it’s a fund that does synthetic call options on high volatility growth stocks that actually don’t pay dividends. Dividend paying companies are pricey because they’re an actual BUSINESS with assets and earnings that appreciate year over year, and that’s called actually investing. If you had put 45,000 into this ETF when it started you’d be sitting at 31,500 right now, so there’s 13,000 of your money down the drain in less than a year. Had you done the same with Tesla stock your 45,000 would be 52,000. If you want dividends go actually invest for dividends, not quick monthly income and your actual investment getting drained from you.

TSLY has a short history, but based on the limited data, yes, buying TSLA has delivered superior total returns. Some investors are willing to accept lower total returns in exchange for monthly income. I think it's important to be aware of the differences in returns when choosing between the two. Regarding the income, it increases the NAV gradually as its earned, then decreases the NAV abruptly when it's distributed. I think it's relevant to be aware of that mechanism, but it's not central to the investment decision making process.
