The Marco Polo was built in the Netherlands in 1993 under the name VIA IONIO for the Italian shipping company Viamare di Navigazione.
In 1993, the ship was already in service for TT-Line; under charter, the ship sailed on the Travemünde - Trelleborg route from 15 May to 24 August.
After the end of the charter, the ship sailed in the Mediterranean on the routes Voltri/Genua - Termini Imerese/Palermo.
In 1994, the ship was sold to the shipping company Adriatica di Navigazione and renamed ESPRESSO RAVENNA. The ship was operated on the Ravenna - Catania route.
In 2012, the ship was sold to the shipping company Compagnia Italiana Di Navigaz and renamed BARBARA KRAHULIK.
In 2019, the ship was then bought by TT-Line and renamed Marco Polo.
In January 2020, the ship then entered service on the Trelleborg - Klaipėda route.
In the spring of 2023, the ship then changed to the new route Karlshamn - Klaipėda.
