Would you consider buying such a lens if you only have a kit lens of your APS-C Camera? #ttartisan #ttartisan23mmf14 #ttartisan23f14

Very nice channel! For this lens I have only great things to say. Initially, I bought it driven by pure curiosity a few months ago. I am a long time manual lens user and i understand the difficulty to find a vintage lens in pristine condition. I wanted a fast MF prime with some character for my Sony a6000 and when I found that TTArtisan 23mm f1.4 I immediately put the order. For such a price I can’t find any weakness, so I will write some key pros for me: 1) the focal length. The 35mm equivalent is more scarce than you think in the APSC market. There are only a handful of options and most of them are AF and big/heavy. And this is even worse if you look for a vintage glass, because back in the day most primes was 35mm or 28mm at the widest (most vintage lenses are for FF cameras). 2) Aperture. Again, 1.4 is the perfect compromise between light gathering and usability (0.95 is too difficult to focus manually). I am shooting during dawn or dusk most of the time and I never needed ISO higher than 640…even at night ISO 800 perfectly achievable. 3) the most important, for me, is the build quality. This lens feel amazing in the hand. All metal and glass, with smooth focus ring and very tactile aperture ring. I had various Zeiss lenses before and I can’t tell the difference in the quality of materials or construction. And the look is a huge plus in my eyes (the Zebra pattern, like the old Zeiss Jena, is my all time favorite lens look)! 4) last but not least, the image quality. Somehow this lens achieves the impossible: from 1.4 to f4 the images have that desirable vintage look, especially between 1.4 and 2.4 it even matches the medium format feel. Very (I mean, VERY) sharp in the center and blown out towards the edges. It even “suffers” from significant field curvature, like any pure vintage lens! But, from 5.6 to 16 the lens steps in the modern, clinical, prime territory. I shot a couple of very cloudy morning seascapes recently, with a crimson sky, and the result blew my mind! I can suggest this lens for any APSC user that wants a MF prime. If you need AF or edge to edge sharpness with minimal distortion, then you must pay (too much) for that. This is a lens for artistic purposes.

Looks fantastic!!! All the imperfections give it character in my opinion and distortion is easily corrected.

Has anyone tried this lens on a FF camera, like the Sony A7 or the Canon eos RP ? Will it cover the sensor size? I'm looking for something more artsy... so if it covers with minor vignetting that's what I'm after ... also if it gives the purple corners because of the light-angle , then it's also a no-go. Any idea?
