You weather beautifully. I was repelled by missions after 5th grade. I drove by Santa Clara University at least 100 times going to and from San Jose State without noticing it was a campus. My kid got accepted there before I even realized it wasn’t just a big mission site. Hawaii studies old Hawaii, cali-missions, north west -northwest passage. Texas-Alamo, civil war states-civil war, east coast-revolutionary war. I still don’t know what Alaska, Nevada, southwest states, and all the territories study. Yet

Thank you for the compliment and information, but now I have to figure out if every state has its own “thing” they focus on!

Nice to see your still at it. I really like the glue and filings. that would be cool combined with some of the other techniques.

You’re weathering really impresses me Mr Cash so I was looking forward to the results of this. I agree, the oil paints add that real grime look and dirty vibe, but the rusted metal filings were way better than I expected. They also add the texture so that adds an additional dimension to any prop. In the past I’ve used wire wool soaked in vinegar for a few days to age wood and that’s a great effect, would possibly give you another option or technique to try? The vinegar will turn rusty, it’ll smell but it looks good. The smell does fade though. Love these videos, the stories as you work add to the main content but also show you for the personality you are and it’s great 👍🏼 a real honest and down to earth individual. As for the label of “expert”, I’ve always believed it’s for others to label someone an expert and not the individual themselves. An expert should always still be learning and for me, you are an expert sir. As always, all the best from me and mine to you and yours 👌🏼

Justifying a laser cutter: either tell your wife that it will make more time for her since you can make things in seconds! Or tell her that it would take the place of your Bday presents, Christmas presents ,and anniversary presents for the next 2 years.

Thank you for sharing the different techniques! That rust though looks amazing, and I’m sure it adds another layer of texture to it as well! I’m definitely gonna have to look into that! Now for some purchases to get my weathering to another level!

It does add a cool grit to it and as it starts to rust you can spread the “color” around with a brush. I really liked it!

Sorry, yes ... I most of my videos are very heavy on footage of my painting and weathering. This was more a comparison of finished looks, but thank you, I should have included more! Thanks for taking a look!

Another Great episode, build, stories and advice I have to concur on the channel advice you gave…just do it. It will be ugly to start but gets better with practice. And the messing up sometimes becomes the whole point if an episode. Or at least lends credibility to the realities of a makers universe. And like Ton has publicly stated…if the camera misses the moment…film it again or stage do the process again so that the whole build is captured for the viewer. And if you lack for ideas for what to do with your spare tool piece you made solely for filming it…I’d happily take it off your hands.

EXACTLY!! I found myself yelling at the kids to not throw away some plastic instant rice bowls and when they said “why”? I told them I “liked the shape of them and might use them in a build!” They had the “we are going to put you in a home early” look in their eyes!

Could you add the rust shavings to the vinegar/peroxide mix and then paint with it? Would it still work? Or do you have more control by laying down the filings then spraying them like you did. Thanks, keep up the great content!

Yes, that 100% works! After the test piece I did just that. The only thing you don’t get is that gritty, pitted metal look.
