So, I did a little test to find out if I could defeat Rawk Hawk in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door without attacking him at all. Setup (first time): P-Down, D-Up, Return Postage, Zap Tap, Double Pain, L Emblem, Spite Pouches (second time): same except Double Pain x4, no Spite Pouches
The former combination of badges & items means that Rawk Hawk is receiving a little more than 100% of any damage via direct attacks he deals. For the rematch, I added more Double Pain badges to the mix, so Mario (Luigi) takes 5x more damage than normal.
Q) How did I get more Double Pains?
A) The only way to aquire more than one is via a developer oversight; if you pick up a badge dropped by an enemy while your badge inventory is full (200 is the maximum allowed), you can choose to toss any of your other badges. This action makes the game think you "discarded" a one-of-a-kind badge, so a copy of it will be on sale at Lovely Howz of Badges (even if you pick the original back up again). This can be repeated indefinitely with any badge, though the shop can only hold three instances of a particular badge (like Double Pain) at once. Have fun!
