Feel that music! The 20's talking to us, sharp and lively. Time to get up and dance. Time to be romanced by Tube Skinny. What a wonderful contribution to NOLA! In love with what's been with me since the early '50's when old movies were broadcast on TV, many speaking this language. As I just wrote, just wonderful.

This is 'Wa Wa Wa', composed by Mort Schaefer in 1926 and recorded by King Oliver. For those who enjoy structures, this one seems to be: 00:23 INTRODUCTION - 4 bars. 00:30 STRAIN A : 20 bars. 00:55 STRAIN B : 16 bars. 01:15 STRAIN A : Taken as a cornet solo, with a break on the final two bars. 01:41 STRAIN A : As a clarinet solo, with breaks taken on bars 13 - 16 and the final two bars. 02:08 STRAIN A : As a trombone solo, with breaks taken on bars 13 - 16 and the final two bars. 02:32 STRAIN A : Ensemble, with final eight bars as sousaphone solo, with others holding long-note harmonies. NOTE - at 02:56 Shaye's signal to return to STRAIN B. 02:58 : STRAIN B : We are back to the 16-bar theme, played ensemble. 03:18 : STRAIN A : As a banjo solo, with breaks taken on bars 13 - 16 and the final two bars. 03:43 : STRAIN A : Ensemble, but with bars 13 and 14 taken as a clarinet break, bars 15 and 16 taken as a cornet break, and the final two bars replaced by a 4-bar Coda. 04:07 : CODA. The piece is played entirely in the key of B flat.

Thanks IVAN for this Analysis. Would be interesting to know how many people really listen to the WHOLE TUNE. One listener does in any case => Mr. Pops Coffee! I think many "traditional jazzers" listen only a part of a tune. In general NO PATIENCE enough. Maybe it is only ME?

As a Dixieland banjoist, I appreciate your list of the strains. The banjoist here gave a very worthy solo the likes of which are not often heard. Excellent arrangement.

Thanks, Daniel. String and brass bass players are rarely singled out for praise; but they certainly deserve it. I agree that Max's solo here is exemplary.
