Your passion for these useful machines is intoxicating. We don’t see eye to eye on all things but we share the same interests for sure. Looking forward to this winter.

Good morning Mr. Pete. I would suggest to not remove this video. It shows you at your best; really excited about upcoming events. Who wouldn't be excited about getting a new machine, let alone two new machines? And a trip to Arnfest to top it off!

My first machine was an Atlas 618 that I bought in pieces. Was able to completely rebuild with ebay and Clausing. At the time, about 15 years ago, you could still buy lots of new parts from them.

Good morning, Mr. Pete. You sound very excited about your new project and new machines! I had an opportunity to buy a single handle gearbox South Bend locally but had to pass. As I was going over it, we could not get the gearbox to engage.

Hi Mr Pete, I agree not to pull this video down to quickly. I’m very excited to hear about you upcoming projects and videos. I truly appreciate all the efforts you put into educating us and sharing you vast experience and knowledge. I bought your Atlas Craftsman video series. It is outstanding. My lathe is a 12x24” built in 1939 for the 1940 sales year based on the date on the bed (including some aging time). I’ve dated it based on the 1940 Craftsman catalog picture and the oval switch plate. I’m sad to say my lathe still sits on my bench broken down into major subs. I’ve been through a house move as well as 2 hip and 2 knee replacements over the past 3 years. But I’m starting to get my outside house projects out of the way, and also a major power update for my outside 14’x36’ steel garage shop building. Mine is also not heated but here in Virginia, only a few weeks where it will be colder than a long sleeve shirt situation. Please keep these great videos coming and know that we so much appreciate and enjoy you work. God bless. Best Regards, John

Glad you will have inside projects to keep you out of the snow and the cold garage this summer. I have never regretted putting my shop in the basement instead of the garage. I will let the next guy figure how to get it all out later on. I could wear a shirt like that but I am afraid the ways would be warped due to the interior packaging I care :).

Mr. Pete Love your enthusiasm! I have never been to Arnfest but I suspect that I feel the same way about the Tri-State Gas Engine show and swap meets at Portland, Indiana. I look forward to that show all year… not so much my wallet as I always find too much that I “need.” I would like to check out Arnfest one of these days when time permits. Hope you had a great time there.

I have a single lever SB13 I believe to be a late 30's model. It came out of a local school system and through several hands before I got it. Still quite the good machine though and has earned its keep through the years.

Looking forward to the next videos mrpete. I still don't get this "temporary video" thing. We will lose the information from the catalogues etc you have just shown us. Even if a video is not watched often it still points to your channel and gains some views which generate revenue. Also it costs you nothing to leave it up. ATB regards from the UK

I’ve got that South Bend with that single tumbler. When they adopted it, it was one of a number of Patent gearboxes out there near the end of the 19th century, some better than others. That was one of the better ones. My lathe was made, according to South Bend, when I called them after buying the lathe in 1983, in Sept 15, 4:50 P.M 1953. What part do you want< I was asked. They would be able to supply any part for any machine they made from 1909. Sorry, I was told, but not for machines from when they began in 1906 as the factory burned down back then and they didn’t have the records. I wonder how many companies today can supply parts that far back?
