This reenactment was well done and gives us good insights into how kids were educated, those that were lucky enough to be close enough to a one room school house like this one. With such a long history there had to be hundreds of young people who attended over the decades it was functioning. What a precious piece of history that was preserved, thank you for sharing this with us.

Love this reenactment! I am going to share it with my 3rd grade students when we compare and contrast one-room schoolhouses of the past to schools today. :)

Really enjoyed this reenactment!! My mother went to a one room schoolhouse in the late 1930s. The education in the 1800s was far more superior than today's schools. If children took an exam today based on what Laura Ingalls learned, they would fail miserably. We need to go back to basics and build up those skills that lead to a well rounded, excellent education!!

Me and my class had a field trip to the Hayley museum and we learned what they learned in the 1800s we even write with the ink feather things! We did addition problems but it was like 2306+6739+89045

Galina G I agree. I'm a former special education student that feel the same way.

Special education sometimes makes things worse on the students who are said to learn differently than the general education environment. However sometimes the special education teachers are mean or treat students bad.

Wow, not many one room schools from that era are still around. Most surviving ones are either historic sites, museums, or just abandoned and falling down. So cool to have it compared to an 1887 photo. It changed very little.

RJ Walker We could always build an old fashioned style two to four room schoolhouse.

Yes, but it's the one room school houses that intrigue me. Not many left anymore, but from 1880 to 1920 they dominated the countryside. They were everywhere, so most children could walk to one. It was how children in rural areas went to school back then. Usually one teacher to the school, and they taught all ages of children. As far as building an old fashioned 2 to 4 room school house, they could do that, but they don't. They generally want modern looking schools for kids today. I'm sure there are exceptions to that though. I've heard there are some very old schools still being used as schools, but it's not too common.

this is really cute. I would love to know what kind of camera was used to film this. I wish I could have lived back in those times :)
