Tucson celebrated its first rodeo 97 years ago in the prohibition days of 1925. La Fiesta de los Vaqueros, which is Spanish for “the cowboy party,” was initiated by winter visitor Frederick Leighton Kramer to draw visitors to Tucson during the winter months.
The parade and rodeo events are still going strong, and kids in Tucson even get a few days off from school each year to celebrate. Here is a Super 8 movie from my family that I converted to digital showcasing the parade in 1950.
