I've watched dozens, if not a hundred+ BB58 vids over the years while longing for one, and saving up. Now, having one, I'm still watching reviews I haven't seen, and even rewatching many that I have. 😄 Not my first proper watch, but probably my best one on paper. I just love it too much and seemingly can't get tired of hearing others talk about it.

What I enjoyed about this video is that it shows signs of real wear. Most other videos seem like the owners keep them in a box, as they are so scratch free.

I wear all my watches all the time everywhere. I don't put scratches on them because I'm just careful. 🤷♂️ Muscle memory, I don't think about it. I tuck my arm in behind my back etc when passing through doorways at work or tight hallways with people passing etc. I work in a super busy zoo of an ER with equipment everywhere. Never had a problem. No safe queens, but definitely babied.

I am the proud owner of both the Black Bay 58 in Navy Blue, and more recently, the black/gilt version to compliment a range of watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've cherished for nearly 20 yrs. The Tudor BB58 is an outstanding well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate the rather understated blue dial and aluminium bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. But I hankered for the warmth of the original Black/Gilt version and since it was nearly Xmas I thought what the heck. Although not quite up there with the Rolex in the absolute quality stakes - but why should they when barely 40% of a Sub's retail price - go to an AD and try one of these wonderful watches on. An in-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed

This may or may not be a "hot take," but I much prefer the BB58 design to the Rolex Submariner. 😲Honestly, to me, the BB58 could truly be that "one watch" collection watch. Not only is it sporty, but it looks good on so many nato's as well as leather straps. Man, what a beautiful watch and I love seeing how "worn" yours is!
@Watchcastage

I can absolutely understand that. The BB58 is a bit more understated with the matte bezel opposed to the high polish ceramic of modern subs. Just draws a lot less attention. I do love the vintage subs with aluminum bezels and the 40mm sizing. Those are gorgeous. I also like the modern Starbucks a lot…I mean A LOT. Maybe in 10 years I’ll get a call from an AD that I can buy one. If not oh well. I refuse to pay 10-15,000 over retail for that. How are you enjoying your new Seiko?
@KentuckyMan30
2 жыл бұрын
@@Watchcastage Yes. Vintage Subs are more appealing to me. Actually, to further my "hot take" action, I still prefer Tudor Subs to the Rollie. Maybe it's just me being a contrarian. Haha. Man, my Seiko SJE085 is incredible. Totally worth selling my Grand Seiko for. I actually just picked up another Seiko, the SPB117. Been wearing that everyday since getting it. I've been enjoying that way more than I thought I would.

The SPB117 is a great looking watch. I have one in the watch box to review, just never got around to it. The compass quirk rubbed me the wrong way, but so be it. The case shape and fit is so good.
@KentuckyMan30

@@Watchcastage I will never use the compass. Haha. I love the aesthetic of it and having that second crown. Those silver shark teeth indices and the handset against the black dial really set off the watch for me. And yes, I'm in love with the case shape (just like the SPB159 I had).

Great and thorough review. If there’s one thing I can suggest, please demonstrate the winding and I’m sure your mics can pick up how good it sounds! I got tired of hearing of this watch and found it basic. When I finally saw one in person, I was in love. It is a superb watch. Also I didn’t find the rivets very noticeable in person.
@Watchcastage

That's a great suggestion to demonstrate the winding. And absolutely that's how it goes. Once it goes on your wrist, it's hard to get it off because it wears so well.

Isn't the thickness 11.9mm? (Including dome). But yes, it wears thinner because lens height doesn't visually add to it. If it were flat, it would be around 11.6, which is what it wears as in terms of optics. The doming will also ramp up any sleeve cuff over it with ease.

Arrived here from your 2021 Favorite Audio video. BB58 doesn't do it for me; something with "Black" in the title shouldn't be so shiny. I've been wearing a Lum-Tec B17 (eBay, used) for 5 yrs. Like the date. Would like a Power Reserve indicator (and throw in GMT for my perfect watch).

I love the color scheme, and general design, but the snowflake hour hand always gives me pause. I agree the vintage aesthetic is nice though! Did you get this thing used, or are the scuffs just from being well-worn?
@Watchcastage
2 жыл бұрын
I bought it second hand, but I don’t think it was ever worn. The scratches and all the wear are from wearing it and not babying it. I know people will cringe at it, but I don’t mind the dings and bumps it acquires while wearing it while working.
