Probably the only 1970's Ulster breaks I've ever seen. Wonderful wonderful wonderful - rare as hens teeth and a joy to view. Thank you.

These classic(?) zero budget adverts and PIFs are somehow still a million times less obnoxious than the dismal modern ads KZitem inflicts on me before each video, and of course Joe and Petunia are always cool.

What a joy it is to see Joe and Petunia again! I read recently that Wendy Craig did Petunia's voice! A friend and I were walking along in the 1990s, near a river. We passed a couple. The woman was middle-aged, plump, wore "butterfly" framed glasses and was licking an ice-cream. I was so stunned, I couldn't speak. Just after we'd passed them, my friend said: "That woman looks like Petunia." 😂

June '76... I remember it well. Plenty of cans of 7-up were drank that summer!

These Ulster ad breaks (PIF breaks?) are sensational.

I think in the 1970’s in Northern Ireland, the least of people’s worries was whether they had turned everything off before they went to bed at night.

@@marnanelNo offence at all to yourself; but your comment is incredibly ironic and unintentionally amusing. And I do live in N.I.

Lynda Jayne Caithness was the continuity announcer that evening. 'Destination America' was being shown in the run-up to the Bicentennial of USA, in a peak midweek slot, so it says something of the UK economic climate and civil conflict in Northern Ireland that Ulster Television were mostly filling peak-time ad breaks with public information films. This wasn't unusual.

I know they take donations as well, but still, it's incredible these guys keep finding this stuff. Never found any Ulster myself.

ITV Ulster couldn’t have made much money from that ad break? All PIF’s apart from the read out local ads and the “become a prison officer for £65 quid a week” ad!!!!

When you think of the money Coca Cola and Pepsi spent on ads over the years, and there's 7 Up with a still picture and a read by the continuity announcer. And was that one of Bod's relations in the Tidy up at Night PIF?

£65 per week in 1976 is £423 in 2024 money.

£65 a week...pah! You earn more of it now on Universal credit! Honestly!

Could anyone help? I can hear some crossover audio during the card ad breaks. I seem to remember that it could be another channel slightly coming in on the signal .. is it just me or would I be correct in saying that?

This break must've been during the night, because those ads look dirt cheap!

The break was between 9pm-10pm. The major ITV companies would have had that break filled with proper paid ads, but Ulster was clearly struggling to sell airtime.

No, this is an example of one of the smaller ITV companies struggling to sell airtime.
