Funkadelic is not recognized well enough I definitely agree with you on that. One of my personal favorite bands for sure, way inspirational and if it wasn't for them a lot of musical feats never would have been accomplished in the years after them.

Hey Dereck I have to agree with you about funkadelic. I remember the first time I heard them I think that they was the greatest band i ever heard. I have all those early albums of theirs they can't be touched. There isn't any one I can think of today that comes close to there greatness. They should be in the rock and roll hall of fame.

OMG, I love the Move. Just scored a 2-LP best of at the recent record show for $6. I only have Maggot Brain from Funkadelic but I'm really enjoying sampling their other albums. I'm sure I'll be buying more of their LPs soon. I'll be sampling Mary Goes Round. Thanks for being real and sharing your insight as always. I don't dig our radio stations here, either. Later. ~Hanna

Have to agree with you on the many talents of Funkadelic. George Clinton did the Mardi Gras Madness Tour this year but I missed out seeing them at the House Of Blues in Feb. I showed Eddie Hazel's 'Games, Dames & Guitar Thangs' in my last video. Did not stop spinning that album for over two weeks. His guitar playing. So much feel. Always nice to catch up with you Brother D~ Rob/Boston

A dear friend of mine was a roadie for The Move (and also Hendrix's first visit to the UK!!!). He's in his seventies now of course. But anyway I used to teach him bass (of all things!) and then we'd go for a beer and we'd talk sixties music. He's a quiet guy....and interestingly his stories would be simple, nothing wild, because he was working hard and driving the equipment overnight to the next gig while the bands partied. :)

Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits tells some great stories in his songs. I didn’t think much of them growing up, but have really come to appreciate them and also Knopfler’s solo stuff. I would love to see him live! Enjoy your videos. I’m learning a ton about music from them and a lot of good New music references.

Dereck, for any of your viewers who are curious about Funkadelic and not sure where to start, I recently picked this up on vinyl and it is a FANTASTIC introduction. It's also great for the DJs in your audience because it has all the hits plus some awesome B-sides. The bar where I DJ only has one turntable (mine) so I can only play complete album sides - it's too clunky to try to go from song to song on different album. In any event, this one is PERFECT for playing a complete side. www.discogs.com/Funkadelic-Music-For-Your-Mother-Funkadelic-45s/master/16249

Man, I love this video! Good reminder, I need to score some Funkadelic, and probably some Parliament, too! But the last few minutes about OPINIONS might be the most important part of ANY of your videos! "Who sets the template?" Who, indeed?! Everyone needs to realize that opinions are NOT an Olympic sport; that it's OKAY to have your own opinion. AND you make the distinction between an opinion and compassion. SO well stated, Dereck! Thank you for that! Peace and love, my Brother.

Always said and still say,......the VC is not about us, it is about the “Turn On”, like you said.....the turn on of the layers folks are missing! We all need to play nice in the sandbox......but it is guaranteed someone is going to throw sand.

Agree with you about Funkadelic; however, the precursor to them was Sun Ra. Sun Ra set the standard for Funkadelic to follow. When I look at George Clinton I see Sun Ra's progeny. Both are very important, but Sun Ra is a major influence on Funkadelic on many levels, IMHO.

Man your last piece on opinions and the like really hit the nail on the head. Regardless of whether or not I or anyone else agrees, hearing you speak your mind on his channel is great. On a sidenote, I wonder what you think of Laurie Anderson. Tom Waits too. Cheers.

Funk, P-Funk, and the whole cast and crew, not just but certainly Bootsy, Bernie, & Eddie Hazel are just too good for words, though the cartoons are nice. Dereck, you ever heard Bootsy's New Rubber Band's Blasters of the Universe or his Zillitron - Lord of the Harvest from the early nineties? Epic.

The late great Bernie Worrell also has some pretty nice solo work. The ode to his wife, Judie's Passion Purple from his The Other Side album is really nice, and a lot of Blacktronic Science got me to appreciate rap as part of the musical art form for the first time.

And I also love the Mark Hollis solo album and have probably everything available by Tim Friese-Greene and his Heligoland that you can only buy from his Web site. If you’re not familiar with his work, I think you can still find a few of his songs to sample on KZitem. (There’s also another group of musicians going by the name of Heligoland, so be aware of that when you search.)

Still holding out for real quality reissues of the Funkadelic catalog. I noticed you have the 4mwb reissue of Maggot Brain which i hear I need to avoid. I hear what you're saying about The Police and Dire Straits etc, I was just talking about the same thing with my sister yesterday when she heard the new Killers track on the radio. Yes she's still listening to rubbish music, she doesn't get it yet but she thinks she does. I told her she's never going to hear anything good on commercial radio.
