Best master class yet. The patience of Job. Balint shows us by example a great lesson. By taking care of the instrument, we gain understanding and appreciation. With this knowledge and time well spent we can now begin learning to play; thence, interpret the score. Nicely done, sir.

At 7:51 you are following the string to find the wrestpin for tuning. Here's a 'dodge' I use for this - particularly useful in Square Pianos - on all 'C's use a red (or green, or blue) felt washer, on all 'G's use a green felt washer - whatever colour code you like to ascribe anyway. This will certainly help reduce the time taken for tuning! In Grand Pianos I use wide black hard-rubber wedges for setting the bearings - which I shorten for low-tension applications for muting clavicords and square pianos.

My harpsichord has marker red on every A's wrest pin, which I believe is also the standard for lutes, if I am not wrong now.

Mr. Barosi, did you manufacture your own clavichord strings? See the mechanic system, just get the manufacturing plan. But this strings I am not sure if I can get it here.

In your description of altering the temperment I knew what you meant because I have been studying this type of clavichord for a few years. You can slightly bend the metal tangents (denstoredanske.dk/@api/deki/files/5175/=296422.801.png?size=webview) to shorten or lengthen the striking position. Nice video Balint. I enjoyed watching you. Looking forward to more music being played on your practice instrument.

At 5:06 + you are graphically describing my earlier comment that the Clavicord is the only keyboard stringed instrument capable of giving a 'Tremolo' sound. Thanks!

On some organs, you can achieve a tremolo by taking advantage of the winding system's limitations. It is something highly utilized in the Dutch organ tradition.

Szia! Válaszodat előre is köszönöm!

What is the difference between a Clavichord and a Harpsichord , as they sound similar .
@michaelzaichik5595

William Jeffrey the difference is the method of sound making In the harpsichord the chord is hooked up while in the clavichord it is hit by a small piece of metal The sound isn’t the same btw

In a clavichord, when a key is pressed, the corresponding string is struck by a piece of metal; the harder the key is pressed, the louder the sound. In a harpsichord, when a key is pressed, the corresponding string is plucked; no matter how hard the key is pressed, the volume doesn’t vary.

In the case where there are two strings per key, is that for volume or is it that the two strings are tuned slightly differently?
@bkarosi
Жыл бұрын
It is just the volume. I have a small clavichord with only one strung per key, and it is also a fretted instrument so for example G and G# share the same string
@hori166
4 жыл бұрын
It's an absolute disaster when a string breaks on a fretted clavichord! Winding a string onto the tuning pin is more difficult than a harpsichord, and the space between the pins is so small. Then you have to deal with the listing felt which is woven in between the strings, and also hook the loop onto the hitch pin. Conclusion: don't break a string! You didn't show how to adjust the space between the tangents. Even though I built my own harpsichord and clavichord, I had a professional string and regulate my clavichord.
@franzliszt3195

Say you break a string, perhaps the SAME string a couple of times. Does the wood get worn out and not hold a tune? If so, then what?
@hori166
Жыл бұрын
@@franzliszt3195 It hasn't happened since I had mine strung by a professional. I don't know why a string would break on a clavichord other than you didn't realize which string you were tuning so you tuned it too high. This is impossible to do since you place your finger on both the key and the string during tuning, then follow the string to the pin.
@franzliszt3195

@@hori166 I saw on one youtube vid that the guy said that tuning a clavire string just short of breaking is when it should sound best, that is, max tension you can manage.
