Oh good grief. Lol. This just popped up but it's 3 years old. I had an 85 300d from 01 to 05. At some point I replaced the grommet and o-ring. I did not take the pan off. I had forgotten it has a 2 piece tube. I think I loosened the turbo and took the upper tube off. Then I just pulled the bottom tube off, quite a struggle getting that grommet to come out. I could not really see what you were doing since you had the camera all over the place! Lol That engine needs a good cleaning! I loved my 85. Almost wish I still had it. I wonder if it is still out on the highways and byways somewhere in California. It had 280k miles when I sold it. Ran like a top and did not burn a drop of oil. Now I have a 2001 e320 sport. It's a hotrod compared to the 300d. Lol Do you still have this car? Enjoyed the time going down memory lane.

Yes I do, and doesn’t even leave a drip on the driveway. It would leave a huge puddle when I first bought it. Most of the leaks were from this drain tube.

Have you done an EGR delete to save this engine ? Just put a think blind gasket in place of the original to stop gasses from going through :) and cauterize the vacuum line that goes to it :) You're engine will love you. Better fuel economy and Horsepower.

I plugged the vacuum line to the egr when I first bought it but just recently completely removed the egr. I just posted the video of it a few days ago.

I wanted to ask you about something that I had trouble with on my 300d. At one point my a/c compressor went out so I replaced it and switched it over to the new gas. I may have gotten a rebuilt compressor. Can't remember now. The correct belt for that from Mercedes-Benz is almost to short to go on even with the compressor pivoted all the way up. You have to struggle to get it on. Once it is on though you can lock it down and there is a small locking bolt on the upper arm to keep it from coming loose. Yet, somehow my belt kept coming loose but the bolts were all tight. You could always tell because it would start making a thumping noise. It did this to me several times and I never figured out why it did that. The pulley was straight and yet the belt would come loose. I was always very careful not to overtighten the belt so as not to stretch it. That still bugs me to this day. I don't remember now how long it would go before it would come loose. I hate unsolved problems with my cars and always try to keep things fixed on them. Does your a/c work and do you have any problems with it?

It does, it has a cheap rebuilt compressor running envirosafe instead of r12. Ive never had a issue with keeping it tight. From what I recall there’s a really hard to reach bolt on the back side of the compressor you have to loosen then retighten to adjust it. Maybe that one was always loose?

@@mjmcomputers No, I tightened it. That's the lock down bolt I mentioned. The only thing I can think of is that the compressor pulley was out of round and was actually stretching the belt but I just never figured it out. Oh well! Lol

So you may have said it in another video and i just dont remember, but are you going to paint this car? I think you should an least try and clear coat it.

+Brother Blacksmith it will have to be painted. The paint is too far gone and it needs a lot of dent repair and filler. Haven’t decided yet if I will try to match the paint or just pick a different color.
