to run boost i needed to upgrade to the 06 pcm and repinned/spliced the c1 connector to run the 06 engine wiring harness from an 06 4.2i6 that had a maf. had it tuned using lime-swap.com using hptuners! also needed injectors/harness and relocated washer fluid and battery. custom up pipe from stock manifold or fab an entire manifold. Definitely upgrade / build the trans. at 10psi max it was wearing on stock 4l60e haha after abuse for a while though. i made my up pipe too big of diameter so it was very laggy... i didnt know turbos as well then as i do now having built my twin turbo v12. hmmm.... i think those were pretty much the essentials. email me if you do go to do it - i have my mostly complete/accurate pin out excel sheet still

I love the 5.3 LS V8 in these, I'd turbo mine, but the poor 4l60e transmission! A twin-turbo 5.3 with 6spd manual would be nice, but the chassis isn't worth it. My basically-modded 350hp/375tq is more than adequate for the marshmallow suspension Envoy XL. Not a sports car but it's quick in a straight line, tows like a beast, and gets decent mpg for a 4.10 geared 5.3 V8 granny-barge. Your 4.2 is a great and very durable engine, but the KZitem video makes it appear much slower than it likely is. Still have it, how did the transmission hold up!?
@ConeKillerAUTOx

I agree and this thing was laggy because i screwed up on the turbo manifold diameter... Too large. But it was really fun the 4l60 made it 3 months and then shortly after the turbo got oil starved from a hose breaking. Ended up offroading it n/a a few years and then sold it :'( wish i didnt!

Which exhaust do I recommend for the inline 6? Definitely magnaflow (and catless), if you want a deeper and smooth tone. Bigger magnaflow=quieter, and vice-versa. Totally preference, but I don't like loud higher-frequency noises like 4/6 cylinders (except for sportbikes, sexy turbo whistle, supercharger whine, and some exotic high-winding V8s). I really don't mind slightly more aggressive V8 thunder! My 'voy XL with 5.3 catless magnaflow makes me grin everytime I drive it. Magnaflow also has no power-robbing restriction, so it's what you want especially on a forced induction engine! If I'm correct, they put big resonators after the mufflers on all these 4200s. Resonators actually improve sound quality (less tinnyness and raspiness, deeper tone), without adding any airflow restriction. Mufflers quiet it down but add a lot of restriction. Many cars (likely the 4200 Envoy) sound very good by deleting the muffler and cats, but keeping the resonator. There will be improvement in power, and the resonator and turbo will cancel out ugly frequencies like a good muffler. Definitely will be a deeper tone, but there's only so much you can do with a 6cyl!
