I appreciate the honesty. I had to have my gf get the bolts on the back off. I got my arm stuck and could barely move. I finally just ended up cutting the heat shield off on the back of the turbo. Once I got it off I sent it flying across the yard and plan on shooting it tomorrow.

The removal on my LBZ wasn’t all that hard, but definitely having long ratcheting wrenches makes the job WAY easier

Man thanks for making this video. It helped me out so much. I gave it a quick try to pull out the heat sheild from the turbo as everyone posts. After 10min I daid screw it I'm doing it your way. Better success. Punk ass band clamp bolt was positioned at the bottom just like your.

You are right some videos conveniently leave out the her shield part. I cut mine in half and removed it. Total PITA.

To remove turbo heatshield. First remove glowplug module/mount. Cut the shield about an 1 or 2" from the front in multiple spots. Bend the passenger side upwards as you pull it out on the drivers side top.

Doing up pipes and manifolds on my lmm and best way to completely take it off was to get that coolant line out of the way and take it out on the passenger side of the turbo rotating it like a chair through a door sideways. and also tip I took out the Glow Plug controller to help get the coolant line out.

Invest in a nice high tooth count, flex head ratchet with a long handle. I have gear wrench brand stuff and it has saved me on almost every job ive done on my lly

I got that heat shield off but your right it is a pain in the ass someone on here said something about cutting one side with a saws all I did that to get mine off still wasn’t easy.

On my LMM Top shield i actually bent mine up enough to cut it in half with a small air saw with a small blade. It was about the only way i could figure out how to get it out. I completely agree with the frustration! It took me i think 3+ hours just to do the downpipe install

No clamp on my 07.5 LMM to get the heat shield off. Just 3 bolts on top. However couldn't get it pulled out so took my sawzall and cut the driver's side side piece off, then was able to yank it out with channel locks.

Easy way to get the shroud off. Remove the glow plug module and bracket. Remove all of the cab mount bolts on the passenger side. Jack the cab up no more than 3.5 inches. There is a clearance issue between the cold side air inlet and intake charge pipe. The shroud/shield will clear the fire wall. I rotated it out I the direction of the glow module. Also helps get the down pipe heat shield though you can probably skip that step with the can up in the air. Also recommend putting two 2x4s between the body mount and the cab mount behind the front tire. Just in case the jack fails while you have your hand on it.

I'm replacing my down pipe right now. The heatshields took 35-40mins with a 10mm ratcheting wrench and a long 3/8" drive socket with a short 10mm socket. The downpipe clamps,bolt and removal took another. 10mins. All in all it wasn't too bad,the heatshield was time consuming but it all came out with no issues.

I just cut the heat shield right down the middle with a little air saw zaw and it came out perfect and u can still reinstall it and bolt it down and it doesn't even vibrate

I just turned it off to the drivers side. It was out of the way there and bolted back in afterwards. Mine is a lly the dip stick was the biggest pain

Move your glowplug controller and just bend the shit out of it. Or use tin snips and cut it in pieces.

All you need to do to get the exhaust tubing out is remove the hanger bracket from the trans, 2 bolts and it will slide right out toward the front. No need to cut exhaust pipe.

Most the kits are down pipe back exhaust kits. Then you add a down pipe.
