As a Turkish student currently in high school, another very important exam is the LGS. It’s the high school entrance exam. Good high schools are very exclusive in Turkey. If you end up doing good in the test and go to a good high school, you’re more likely to attend a better university because you had a better high school education. There are some students that go to good universities despite not going to the best high schools, but they’re very rare.

bro u think its still that much bad? students in turkey starting from secondary school cant even normally have free time especially 8rd grade studentes WHICH ONE ARE ONLY 12-14!!! In 2 weeks have tons of exams and guess what? we have them 4 times in a school year. LGS, a hard exam for 13 yrs olds to enter high school, TYT AYT and YKS even worse exams for kids in highschools. The new turkish system is even worse, if you get lower than 70/100 on turkish (which one has extra exams that only get you 85/100 if you make 90/100 on these esxtra exams) you just FAIL. Not even talking about how they control every single shit we wear at school, giving attention to our school uniforms, hair styles, and that ones dont fit the school system just get denetioned. Still to this year btw. Most kids live far away from schools and they have to take phones, but guess what, do they? No. They literally give a bad punisment like denetion and make sure your phone is taken away by teachers until end of school year. Not even smart watches bro!!! They also take it away. NOW LETS COUNT ALL OF EXAMS! (THE FACT THAT TEACHERS CANT EVEN MAKE OWN EXAMS AND THEY HAVE TO PICK QUESTION SCENARIOS THAT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM GIVES!!) (1-4 grades dont have exams lucky kids >:(( Secondary school exams Turkish Exam + Extra exams such as: Listening and Speech Exam. Social Studies (aka turkish history) exam Maths (and yes theyre hard af) Science exam English exam (A small population of Turkey speaks english natively so its even worse than turkish) and extra exams: Listening and speech. My MIL was Dutch Indonesian. She graduated high school in Holland in the late 40's. She said their final exams were held by standing in front of a panel of your professors, each of whom spoke a different language. Each professor would ask a question in their native language, and the students had to answer in the language the question was asked. So not only did they have to know the answer to the question, but how to answer it in the language asked. In case you're wondering, 12 classes, 12 languages, at the end of her high school career, she spoke 13 languages. She went on to university and became a stenographer until she married a US airman and emigrated from Holland to Chicagoland. I don't think any schools teach that many languages anymore or hold individual oral final exams either.

That's fascinating. True, no one does that, but populations have gone up and all students are required to go to some kind of high school. Schooling requirements changed a lot in the late 1800s/pre WWII years, with former peasant classes going from no education, to primary or grammar school only, to high school for all. I would guess your MIL was a good student and tested to be put in some kind of high school. (Not that I know anything about school in Holland specifically. Just guessing based on other places I have read about. I'd love to know more.)

@Jennifer Pearce she never indicated that it was a private school or anything other than a standard high school. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how horrid the US educational system is compared to just about any other country. Past, present, or future.

Here in India we have many competitive examinations depending on what branch you are going to study after school. But the most difficult is the JEE examinations for those who want to take engineering. There are two levels JEE Main and Jee Advanced. If you pass Jee Main you get to write JEE advanced through which you can access some of the best colleges in the country. The issue is these exams being government run also means they have reservations for the minorities meaning it's so much easier for a person from one of those groups to get a good seat in a college. A general category student has to do back breaking work for 2 years in order to get a seat in a top college whereas a minority doesn't need to do nowhere near so much work. It's literally turned from discrimination against minorities to discrimination against the majority as a student in the general category has to get insanely high rank to have a seat in a college whereas another person in the minority group can get a decent rank and get the same seat. I understand reservations in governments and such but having them in intellectual institutions just makes our education system even worse.

It even more trash of a system because of the extreme difficulty of the Advanced exam and reservation. An unreserved candidate must have 40% marks to pass. While a reserved candidate can pass with only 10% marks. The conducting body of JEE once said - 'It is not a selection process, It is a rejection process'
@ilikecheeze1012

@@unknownhuman9416 Very true. Even females are given reservations in IITs and NITs whereas a male in the general category gets nothing except maybe the home state reservation for a NIT in his state. It's not just they're giving people who don't deserve it a seat in a top college, they're denying the opportunity for the one who does deserve it, which is the worst thing about this system in my opinion.

In Kenya, we had the 8-4-4 system... 8 years of primary school, afterwhich you do an exam to determine which secondary/highschool you go to... A higher score means a better highschool school... Then you learn for another 4 years in highschool and in your final year, you do a final exam that determines which university you go to AND the Course you're going to study as well... Then you study the course assigned to you in university for 4 years...

Oh I know how difficult it is. In middle school you need to study for 1 big exam that determines what high school you go to and then when that is done you study for another big exam which determines if you go to a university or not. And both of those exams are once ib a year so if you miss it you need to wait another year.

You can take the exam for high school once and some years are easy and some years are difficult, for example, I had a hard exam because it came to my time, but the second exam after me was easy and this causes injustice.

My school was also very difficult. You have to spend 13 years of school from pre school to senior high. Those elementary and junior studies are very important to your senior years. You have to pick a strand which is STEM, the most difficult one, HUMMS for those who didn't reach stem level or others, and ABM for business. School starts at 7am to 4 or 5pm for more than 200 days

This might sound strange but I'm kinda glad I didn't go to college. I had no discipline when it came to studying, so I knew college was out of the question. Plus I didn't have any money, so I was most likely going to end up in some type of dept. College should be for the people who have the intelligence and desire for learning and everyone needs a college degree to be successful.

I believe all the Asian countries do the same take the test the same times. We have 7 subjects, one after another test, to complete in 7 days. Based on the total scores of 7 subjects, than the government will decide which major u will be study in the University.
