Apple tech here… for the love of god please tread carefully. Especially If you are in the least bit irresponsible with passwords, logins, keeping digital data up to date or let others maintain your account for you. It’s a fantastic feature that’s been a long time coming. Only, It’s upsetting for me and obviously for the customers, when they enable these features and create a recovery key only to then walk in to an Apple Store when they broke or lost their phone and now they need help resetting their password. Guess what, can’t help you. No one can. Not even Apple. Your data is simply gone; forever.

You said that with the feature enabled, the customer creates their recovery key, then if they walk into an Apple Store with a broken or lost phone they can't reset their password. No explanation whatsoever for what you said. Why do you say that? The consumer can access iCloud online, and if they have another Apple device they can also access it from that device. Why wouldn't the consumer be able to reset their password if they have this feature enabled?

@eli709 I THINK that was Naomi’s way of (nicely) saying “I am NOT astonished in ANY WAY” LOL. Hubby is ….. in “something” like what you do, let’s call it “Secret Squirrel” as that seem to be the common term I hear….. and he has NEVER set up his “apple” ANYTHING to store on cloud, fingerprint, facial recognition or Wallet just name a few. Basically, he uses his phone to text & Phone someone. That’s it. I called him “Paranoid” one day and he said “Don’t confuse Paranoia with facts or with Experience and EDUCATION on exactly how Big Brother works hon…..never assume and never believe anything any computer company tells you they are ‘doing for you’ because nothing is done out of the goodness of their hearts. There is ALWAYS a catch. Always. If you want to watch YT, there are definitely ‘experts’ that know more about the inner workings of those companies and what they promise vs what they deliver. Find someone with THAT philosophy and mindset. THEN you will know you are in good hands if they have nothing to gain but educating you for the betterment of doing the right thing. Principle and ethics. THAT is who should be your ‘Guru’ as you move forward in learning what you should have learned long ago.”. He’s a smart man. Hasn’t been wrong (that I know of LOL) yet.🤷🏼♀️ I showed him this vid and he said “Naomi seems to have her head screwed on correctly and she appears to be spot on from I have heard. You should follow her. There u go….another opinion I respect. So I have and I am!❤ When I see comments like yours Eli, that does carry some weight with me….of course I am taking your word that you are who you say you are but my gut says 👍🏻 as you have nothing to gain. There are suppose to enforce your rights to get all your personal details (emails , addresses, phone, or whatever was collected) from 1st and secondaries Data Brokers listings ! But i can't figure out if they are efficients or legits. I heard some requires that you send them a copy of your national ID 🤔 in order to delete whatever Gafas and databrokers has collected from us over the years. Some people on Privacy subreddit are saying it works (Incogni, and Deleteme even better for us , but super expensive 💸 : Apparently no longer receive telemarketing phonecalls , massively reduced volume of junk emails/spam/phishing/scam Other people where saying those paid services actually didn't worked, and even apparently leaked their national ID to very suspicious databrokers company and completely doxed themselves/associated they IRL real national ID's instead of protecting them🧐😮💨 I think protect our identity and proactively is mandatory , but at the same time many people give up or does have spread all kinds of personal datas and their personal emails, phone number... And if those services really works that would be an amzing video topic for your channel and game changer for your new viewers and growing audience , to get an opportunity for a fresh start and complementary Good privacy practices you're teaching on your AMAZING 😍 CHANNEL ✅👍🏻 Thank you Naomi !!🙏🏻💖 Ps : of someone tested Incogni or similar services and can provide feedbacks, that would be awesome too 👌🏻🔏

I think this is a misunderstanding. Using a cloud, which you don't host yourself always means sharing certain data with the provider. Of cause you can increase privacy by things like on device encryption, strong passwords etc, but the provider still has dte data, you share to his cloud. The difference is that I tend to trust Apple over Google, Facebook etc, because Apple's business model is not selling my data but making my by overpriced devices, with the best UI/UX possible.
@HighCRI

It was really telling when Facebook, Google and others raged at Apple when they announced you could prevent certain layers of app tracking. All corporations are money-driven predators, but Apple thrives off getting you into the ecosystem (surface level, something you can control) vs. others who want to sell your data to advertisers and God knows who else (something you cannot control). Apple trying to bleed me dry in their ecosystem is the least worst option for me in today’s tech landscape.

The only thing missing from this video is that enhanced privacy is a trade-off with accessibility. In other words, you should decide if you want privacy or ease of access, or to put it another way: do you want to risk exposure of your data or data loss. If you choose privacy you might loose all access to your data but if you choose ease of access you may risk exposure.

7:31 I don't use any cloud unless I absolutely have no other choice. I store things locally on my computer which is encrypted. I do not enable cloud synchronization on any apps I use. I back up my iPhone to my computer's storage drive (my iPhone backup is encrypted ).I have multiple backup drives, which are also encrypted. My calendar and contacts are stored locally on my computer. Any email I received is immediately downloaded to my computer, and the online copy is subsequently deleted. I do not use cloud based health apps. I do not enable location services. I use a VPN service that blocks all trackers, and has a built-in Killswitch. If I need to transfer data between my iPhone and my computer, I use a flash drive. I have the bare minimum of apps on my iPhone. Is all of this inconvenient? It depends on your definition of inconvenient.

Naomi, although your video was very helpful, and very clear... ...it is still too many hoops to jump through, and at the mercy of the next iOS update. I backup my iPhone, using iTunes, locally. I have a spare, ancient laptop that collects dust. I installed iTunes on it, and it backs up my iPhone, via the combo charging/data USB cable. The laptop is not connected to the internet. So nothing gets shared. And in case the laptop dies or gets lost, etc, it is very simple to copy the iTunes backup data to a USB drive (which I do). So I do not have all of my eggs in the old laptop. Yes, the cloud storage offers advantages. But with one mistake; one oversight; one misstep, and your data ends up stored in the clear on Apple's servers. Did I make a mistake? Not knowing is a concern I do not relish. Naomi, you have the head for this, and you are an expert. But I just do not want to deal with trusting Apple, and with trusting myself to get it all right. Using an old laptop is simple and safe -- especially when combined with storing the iTunes backup data on a VeraCrypt volume.
