if you can get the "codes" for the actual remote to go into service mode, you can actually adjust the keystone, and sometimes even reverse the image if I remember correctly

Originally the tv image was projected back onto a mirror. Reflectived that image forward threw the display screen. You can make this work. Place a small mirror that captures the whole image closer to the projector lens as the old one. That will reflect the image forward. Then you have to place a mirror that captures the whole images. This will reflect the back onto the wall. The size of the image displayed on the wall will be determined on the size of the mirrors and how far they are placed apart. Correcting the image keystone by moving the angle of the mirrors. The way you are doing it would place the projector on the wall above the image. Tilting the projector to correct the image keystone. Only way to increase the image is to move the projector further away from the wall.

Thanks for the reply. I do have the mirror stil. It's an "isosceles trapezoid" shape. The problem with moving it further from the wall is there's no way to focus it. I was toying with the idea of putting a different lens on. I have a broken DLP projector that has a decent zoom lens that could be a doner. I just need to figure out a way to affix it.

I didn't put it in a box. What you see is the base of the TV removed, turned on, then pointed at a screen. It has to be close with the current lense but you can put any lense you want if it can be attached. I will do a follow up. I have some plans for it.

Rob Cosentino - the tv I ripped apart was a 50” Sony Bravia joint from 2006.... It didn’t have nicely laid out components like the older rear projector TVs so I had to take a lot of it apart to get to the goods.... the frenel? Lens sheet is mint, and I was able to remove the entire component that houses the glass lenses where the light comes in which has numerous colored glass squares within in for the RGB (seems like there’s MORE than just R G and B, but I haven’t gotten that deep yet.... MY QUESTION IS.... I can’t just “plug it in”... the bulb was missing (which of course I can replace on eBay) and there isn’t a direct power supply... is there a way to use a bench supply to get this thing going somehow?? Any help would be amazing. Thanks

Can I put a mini projector in a 1990 Philips 55 inch tv?
@nonsuch
2 жыл бұрын
To take the place of the original projector? I would say yes but, you might need to use the TV's old projector lens in place of the mini projector's lens. The TV's lens is a very short throw and there is a mirror and glass inside the TV that the image needs to bounce off of before it gets to the screen. It might be more trouble than it's worth and may not be bright enough. Since mini projectors are dirt cheap, just get one (if you don't already have one) and see what you come up with. If the TV just needs a bulb, that may be the best solution.

Check the connections to the IR receiver. It's possible a ribbon cable could have gotten knocked out when disassembling. Also, depending on the TV, it could be on a small breakout board that attaches to the TV's front bezel.

Does it really do 3D as a projector? Or only as a TV?
@nonsuch
7 ай бұрын
It works great as either. It was a 65" 3D DLP TV which inherently has a 3D DLP Projector inside it. Instead of the DLP projector inside bouncing off a mirror to a polarized plastic sheet, you can point the projector anywhere you want. In my case, a projector screen so I can play games and watch movies, in 3D. The problem with it is it has a short throw lense so you can either put it close to the wall or try and put a new lens on. It's just a free solution because DLP TVs are generally thrown away.

@@nathanbulle5782 It's only gonna be fun if you're into 3D. The new LED projectors are dirt cheap and have bulbs that last a super long time. Bulbs for DLP projectors/TVs are still expensive and only last for 4000 hrs or so. Of course, these cheap LED projectors don't do active 3D. Well, you can get them to do Red/Blue anaglyph 3D but, who wants that lol? However, if you want to make a passive polarized 3D setup, you can do that with 2 LED projectors, 2 polarized filters, and a silver screen. You would only be able to use it with your computer because you'd have to have a way to split 3D source material into Left and Right signals that you'd send to each projector from 2 outputs on your video card. There might be a box that can do it but I don't know of any. The best part of that setup is, you can use passive 3D glasses like you get at the movie theater. I had a setup like that for a long time 15 years ago before DLP projectors/TVs were cheap enough for a consumer. Good luck with whatever you come up with.

I dont know why they didnt like just make the projector and the mirror and just keep it a stinking projector, obviously using a fresnel lens for a screen is just pointless. What a way to use a fresnel lens! Like just build the projector and put the mirror on it. It wouldnt be a big bulky tv after all, just open up a box and wallah a projecter type tv!!
@wingnetengineer1624
4 жыл бұрын
The lenticular lens is the front one you see and the Fresnel is the one on the inside of the light-box. The Fresnel disperses the light evenly to avoid a hot spot effect. These are short throw projectors, designed to be in a small, tight space. The front lens is angled to hit the mirror and bounce the image forward to the screen. These are basically a normal projector, you would have to remove the secondary objective lens and tilt assembly and replace it with a suitable one for a long throw design. I am a repair tech, so this is my area of expertise.

What a terrible idea. The optics are calibrated for that exact mirror, screen, distance, and angle. If you try to throw it on a wall, it's going to look as awful, distorted, and out of focus as you see in this video. Rather than throwing away half of the set, why not just leave it put together and use it the way it was meant? You'll get way better results and won't look like an idiot in the process.
