Thanks for this tutorial! i was able to hack mine. One question though: i am not able to use any kind of background Image, Live or Static. Also tried via Nova Launcher. No change. Do you have any idea why this is?

How did you add the original google home launcher as an app in last launcher as i wish to switch between the two freely

My button mapper stopped working and it says it does not work in do not disturb mode but that's turned off in settings so I have no ideah. Nevermind the accessibility setting turned itself off or i hit it at some point by mistake.

Just a question I'm planning for Lenovo Clock 2 and have two Tapo cameras. . . Yes this trick makes the clock cool but my question is does it natively support tapo cameras? Like if I say "hey google show me the porch camera" will it give me a live feed ?

If you can add the cameras via Google Home, then they will work on the smart clock. My Eufy cameras work via "hey google..."

Thanks for these videos, I'm having loads of fun unlocking mine now too. At 5:16 in this video, when the Tapo app is launched in that tiny little portrait mode, I wanted to share my experience with the Spotify app, because it initially did the same thing. I first used "Set Orientation" to choose landscape. I'm using Discreet Launcher, so then I tapped and held down on the Spotify app icon, chose "Access its settings" from the menu that appeared, and then "Force Stopped" the app. (In Last Launcher, the same menu is called "App Info.") I then re-opened the app from the same screen, and this time, it opened in landscape mode, with the UI properly filling the screen. This same fix worked for Apple Music. I haven't tried it with Tapo, but figured I'd share just in case it helps you or others out there, too! Thanks again for sharing this tutorial.

Do anybody know if this works also with the Smart Clock 2 with Dock?

Yep, although I don’t think the nightlight controls work outside the the Assistant Core.

Hey. I followed your original tutorial. I now use it to do home assistant basic controls. I turned on kiosk mode in home assistant which makes the HA companion app go full screen. only issue is after about 12 hours it drops to the launcher. Otherwise works well with a swipe card mimicking the original clock functions too

As detailed in my video, you can get around this by installing target home launcher and remapping the buttons to go specifically to the launcher

@sazwl I can not get the default screensaver to work, so the unit is getting pretty hot. Do you know any solution for this?

I can't figure out what I'm doing differently, but after setting a different app to be the Home app the + button takes me to that app, not Last Launcher. This is what I would expect since remapping the + key to Home, but you still somehow have it taking you to Last Launcher and not Tapo. Did you remap the + button to Last Launcher instead of Home?

Again, I found a work around. I used the Button Mapper app instead which doesn’t put more than two actions behind a paywall (not sure if there’s a specific reason you used the other one). Was able to map a double and hold action to get around. This also sort of frees up the volume buttons to be used normally for volume by disabling the single click.

Yes, i specifically mapped one of the buttons to Last Launcher instead of Home so that i could use target home launcher to auto-run apps on boot

Thank you for your great videos. Watching your first video and reading the thread on XDA developers, I now have a couple of these evices running LAN only to use with Home Assistant via the side loaded app Fully Kiosk Browser. This way I can control (turn on and off) the screen on the clock as a 'light' in combination with PIR presence sensors and automations. I use the device to control music (Spotify and Chromecast integrations i. Home Assistant), lights and see notifications. Furthermore I made a screen saver with a 'digital picture frame' showing family photos when the devices is not in use. Your first video inspired this - thank you so much.

Were you able to get a PLUS license for Fully Kiosk? Mine says it needs the Google Play Store, but after installing it the app immediately crashes.

Update: I installed version 1.46 of Fully Kiosk Browser because 1.47 is when they switched to Play Store billing. I was able to get a license through PayPal. Still wouldn't mind being able to use the Play Store so I could update past 1.46.

That sounds awesome. Would love to learn any details about the screensaver for digital picture frame. Is there an APK you’d recommend or was that handled in Home Assistant too? Any details about the HA integration would be appreciated :)

@@nathanvancleave8434 You are right - license via PayPal is the way. Play store properly isn't an option at all without rooting and loading Lineage OS or something like that.

Thanks for the video. Can you do the same but with the Lenovo smart clock essential?, also is there a way to remove all the amazon echo show 5?.
@Tamay.

Smart clock Essential doesnt have a proper screen, just an LED clock. The echo show 5 runs Android but is heavily restricted, not hackable.
