I purchased a larger 10 inch digital frame at a local yard sale for $2. And upon getting home had to test it out. Works fine. But actually worthless. So I searched hacking a digital frame. And thus find this. Now I must confess that I have 6 monitors on my desk in my home computer lab. And every kind of gadget, media servers, home automation and other things. Enjoyed your video however fast forward 3yrs and one can simply buy a 7in USB touch screen for less than $40 that will easily do all you did and more and with a low power very bright LED display with touch screen. So as for me? Sure I'm going to tinker with it for awhile, but it will likely end up in my massive collection of worthless obsolete gadgets. But thanks for the interesting video. Very cool.

UPDATE: - I found that missing SD card - I've added Spotify integration to SmartFrame and reworked the UI! Check out the new code in the GitHub link above - The SD card I was using with my Pi died and I lost some code for the message board that I'm probably not restoring. So for now the message board won't work :( - I'm working on some new smart home projects and integrating SmartFrame into more devices around the house... keep an eye on my socials, linked in description (0) - (0)

I have a Memento Smartframe 35". Quite an expensive unit purchased around 5 years ago. The frame is 4k and shows amazing pictures, however it required a klunky interface to the company's server in order to work. Not surprisingly the company has since gone out of busines and I, like many others who own this, now have a blank monitor with no way to interface with it. Searching around the InterWebs produces nothing regarding converting this smartframe monitor to something usable, even if i could somehow use an external hard drive plugged into it. My search had led me to your video. Curious if you would/could entertain giving me some assistance on how one could go about converting this thing. Most people paid around $900 for these things new, and the smaller one's were around $700 I believe. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks!

Hey there! This looks like a pretty interesting thing to tackle. You picked the perfect time to comment as I've been working on updated software for my own SmartFrame project practically all week. Are you on Discord? If so, join my server (discord.gg/9Ms4bFw ) and we can discuss more. I might have some ideas as to how to make this work.

I'm currently in a Cybersecurity Bootcamp and have a final project coming up where I need to exploit an IoT device. I have a current digital photo frame, and I'm wondering if I can exploit it in a similar way, but wirelessly. The idea would be that I could access it through my wifi network, as both of it's ports 8080 and 5353 are open... I'm trying to figure out a way to use these to exploit it. If you have any ideas or suggestions, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks!

Dear @RaddedMC, I have Philips photo frame and I want to convert that to a music spectrum analyzer, is there anyway u can help me with that?

Ooh interesting challenge! Presumably with a spectrum analyzer you’d need a refresh rate of much higher than the approx. 1 frame per minute that this project generates. Unless your photo frame has a direct HDMI or other video input, I recommend opening it and finding out what kind of panel it uses, and then buy a new controller board that has an HDMI port. Usually you can look up your panel on eBay and there will be a controller board meant for it there. DM me on Discord RaddedMC#4791 or Instagram @RaddedMC and I can probably provide more help 👍

Depends on what kind of display. If you're looking at a digital photo frame, you'll probably need to open it up and get a new driver board that takes HDMI input. If you want to get into more specific details about it, come find me on Discord at discord.gg/9Ms4bFw !
