That's an intro which I don't often hear: "Hi, I'm Rich" 💲 What does Sawinery mean? I could find a translation for that word.

Eh, money is possible depending on a few factors. If you can build jigs for mass produced items, you can churn out a popular item you may have. You have to price on a retail level though, you're disposable at that point. If you're doing bespoke pieces, you can charge decent amounts, if you're good. Some, honestly most, people won't be able to do this. I've found small pieces, that are jig-mass produced, can beat out some of my bespoke pieces when I do the math.

Thank you so much for an informative video. Live in South Africa & currently unemployed trying to make some money with woodwork. This will help me get a bit more focus.

I don't like Etsy because they charge you to list your products instead of charging you when you sell a product...

That's almost like saying you shouldn't have to pay your rent at a brick and mortar unless you're making sales.

I think the real problem with Etsy these days is that it’s become the home of Canva-produced “Live Laugh Love” tschochkas that clog the front page. They’ve also broken their algorithm - I have searched for shops by name and been unable to find them, because they front-load the results with people who buy ads. I used Etsy for years, and it’s so disappointing to see them sell out true makers and allow a bunch of AI and drop-shipped garbage. It IS good for materials however, especially unusual things like Baksia nuts or pods. But other than that, it’s become useless.

You might be old enough to answer this. You mention Ikea, years ago there was Sauder and a competitor, do you remember that name?

Wow. I remember buying those brands; but I’ve always been bad at remembering names. Sorry, I can’t help you on that one.

Sauder, O'Sullivan and Bush were the big three in the USA. I always remembered them as S.O.B., but that's only inside my head. There was a popular Canadian player, but I can't recall their name.

Great advice! I worked for years doing set up for a production wood company. If you can streamline your process and make it idiot proof, that's where you really make your money. It's almost not worth it for me to make a toy truck for someone. What makes it worthwhile is figuring out what jigs I can build so that when I want, I can pull out those jigs and whip out ten more quickly and easily without having to really think about it.
