Jenna!!! Barb!! I can't believe that I found this. I am glad that I did. I am one of the older butterflies whose parents were told to put me in an institution. Yeah, my parents did not buy that either thankfully. I am now 58 years old.

I have TS, and like the older woman, I'm also a librarian. I will be turning 60 this year, and growing up, I had many of the experiences the adults related. It is heartening that the earlier secrecy and shame are going away (Yay cultural change!). As an elder "butterfly" I can honestly say that it gets better! Also, ask questions of doctors and healthcare. You will need to manage your own healthcare and question assumptions of what being a woman means. 😸

This was such a blessing and very informative! I am so thankful to see every single women and girl thriving with Turner Syndrome!! My 20 year old daughter went to her MFM appointment today and the level 2 ultrasound confirmed what the NIPT results found her to be at risk for and that is Turner Syndrome!! My daughter cried and as a mother and Nurse I reassured her that GOD has the final say, because everyone in that room with us was sad and telling us how sorry they where!! It was upsetting to hear this because it was like they gave up!! Before the doctor could give my daughter options like abortion I stopped him and said '' We do not believe in abortion ''. That's our belief! My daughter is going to be 15 weeks tomorrow and my little fierce granddaughter, Alylah Jane has a strong heartbeat, full of life! My daughter thanked me for stopping the doctor and telling him our belief because she and her boyfriend where overcome with emotions at the time! We are praying for a healthy baby girl who will make it into this world, so we can show her all the love God has shown us!! ❤! OUR🦋!!

I have a daughter with Turner's Syndrome. She's 23 years old, beautiful and articulate. She graduated high school in the top 10% of her class, went to collage, served a mission for her church, works in a pharmacy, and serves in her local church. She lives on her own and drives her car everywhere even though she's only 4'10". She makes more money than 3 of her 4 siblings even though she's the youngest! She is the light of my life and I couldn't imagine life without her!! Please reassure your daughter that she made the right choice and that she will never be sorry!!! Tell her not to limit her daughter. To always have her shoot for the stars!!

Update! Our beautiful butterfly 🦋 was called home to Jesus Christ 3/14/20! We cried but we also had joy in our hearts to know she will never know the pain or hatred of this world! She will only know LOVE❤! Our angel baby! Alylah was beautiful with long eye lashes and porcelain skin💕💜 She had fetal hydrops that just took over, so we know Jesus Christ took her home because her suffering was so great and we are okay with that! We will always wonder who she would have been here but knowing who she is forever is quit alright as well! It puts ease to our hearts when we think about her always becausewe know where she is! We have her ashes in her baby ern and my husband and her daddy are making her shadow box to keep her things in! On July 5, 2020 her Mommy and Daddy found out she is going to be a big sister❤ All tests and ultrasounds so far are normal!! My daughter is doing good and said she feels much better with this pregnancy, she is not sick all the time and she can eat🙏 also she is not sleeping all the time, but has insomnia! She is 11 weeks and 3 days! Please keep her in prayer! Our Alylah will forever be in our hearts and she will be with us there until we are together again in heaven❤❤❤ To TS girls, I pray that you ALL THRIVE and show this WORLD THAT FROM THE BEGINNING OF LIFE YOU LEARNED HOW TO FIGHT AND UNTIL THE END YOU ALL ARE FIGHTERS IN THIS WORLD!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!! TS GIRLS/WOMEN❤💜❤💜❤💪

I have a cousin with Turner’s. I remember when she was born, she was so little and her hands and feet were so swollen looking. She was in some of the first growth hormone blind trials. She has a number of organ abnormalities but very few learning issues. She has the specific Turner’s “look”, more like the older lady, Susan. She is only 4’7”. She has a very successful career and life. Of course, in our family, short stature is not unusual, lol. Our great grandmother was only 4’10”, my mother is 5’, one of my sisters and one of here daughters is also 5’ and I am 4’11”.

There is not really anything you would want to do differently than with any other child. Really, knowing about TS is not nearly as hard on younger children as on their parents, having TS does not have to define you in any way. You/ she can also join some fb groups if you want to, if you ask that question on there, you will get lots of advice.

It appears that people underestimate girls with Turner Syndrome. Yes, there are some who are going to have some very bad hardships, but there are others who maybe only mildly effected who can do so much with their lives that most people will be surprised and maybe a little envious of them. They don't sound like children you would want to automatically abort or put in a group home or label as 'nobodies'. Higher functioning Turner girls have been judges, doctors, nurses, computer programmers. Hey, I don't have Turner's and I have never achieved any of that.

Thank you, everything you say is so important. I have never before heard anyone talk about "high functioning TS"... What I would say is, that there are almost no cases of "low functioning TS" or what people would imagine when hearing that phrase.

@@einnamac4133 I have Turner Syndrome. I mostly live a normal life like the OP said except having to take hormonal pills to get my monthly flow and having to go for a yearly check up (due to TS patients being at higher risk for certain health problems). As for being happy, I guess a part of me is upset that I only reached a height of 4'9 and that it was too late for me to take growth hormones due to being diagnosed late. And I fear I can't have my own bio kids. But aside from that, I guess I am happy or at least could be.

I’m sad to see that doctors made some of these woman feel like they were stupid when they are clearly well spoken, and capable of so much more than the limitations the doctors assumed they had or wanted to put on them. I hope more parents who get this diagnosis can see that it is not hopeless and choose to keep their daughters.

Other symptoms are of course amenoria, and I have a horseshoe kidney and thyroid disease. this has been such a difficult diagnosis for me and I haven't even told any of my family about this diagnosis. this has really turned my world upside down and I wish I had someone to talk to.

Be positive because there is alot we still have, our minds (intellect) and we are able to function quit well in society.

Nothing has ever seriously happened to me yet that was connected to Turners. Some girls are even unaware till puberty. No Mental retardation, and it does not lead to death. Every life is precious.

Only 1-2% survive. They are miracle babies! Some have many health issues, and some have "just" short height and inability to have children. All have lots of docs and tests and labs once dx'd to keep them healthy since certain health issues are more common with girls with Turners. Most will receive daily shots of growth hormone to help them reach as close to five feet tall as possible. They are beautiful, smart, amazing miracles!
