I think by her 'second channel' and the owner tuning it she was probably referring to the second BBC TV transmitter in Sutton Coldfield which opened in 1949 and a few others that had opened by the Coronation. They could have dimmed the lighting a bit to show a better image. And the Bush TV22 wasn't the only set around at the time despite what was implied!! Typical sloppy media treatment of a technical subject. Presumably no one on the crew or in post production knew any better?

I have the larger Bush TV24 system. A great set from 1953

Her voice and presentational style are a real problem.... And there was no 'second BBC channel' when the TV22 was introduced in 1950 - she may be referring to ITV which started in 1955. BBC2 didn't arrive until the later 1960s. And TV22 sets didn't have a tuner fitted - it was a retro-fit from dealers, and only after ITV started. And there is no way that a TV22 is worth anything like 1300 pounds - I regularly see perfectly good examples change hands for 100-250 pounds dependent on their physical condition and whether they've been worked on. Other than that - very accurate and helpful....!

Your ‘valuation’ is correct for non restored examples requiring a lot of work. Fully restored to a high standard I’d agree with the valuation stated by Rob in the video because you can’t find or rarely find fully restored examples. On this basis they are worth what some will pay and I’ve seen sets go for £900 and £1290

@@stevesje71 It wasn't a 'valuation'...Maybe you have seen these 'go' for high prices. I haven't, and I'm heavily involved in this field and have been for over forty years. The NORM is an unrestored example for £100-250 dependent on condition. I knew someone who paid a hundred quid for a TV22 some years ago and then nearly 1000 pounds to a 'restorer'. That doesn't mean that the set is worth £1100....

Hi please don’t talk down to me quoting your 40 years and heavily involved comment. How do you know my history or experience isn’t more? I’m stating what I’ve experienced, and yes the TV22 will always be less than the restoration cost but more than your £100-250 quote. A restored example is worth what someone will pay at the time and can vary by a large amount. As you’ll know from your 40 years experience the market prices of difference models vary quite a bit over the years and I’ve seen Rob’s estimate being near or thereabouts on mint restored sets.

The TV in this video is a 405 line set. to use one today you'd have to buy a demodulator etc and Freeview box to get it all working.
