I agree Dear Lady for believe they're Real Teachers, used to see on Public TV (Ch 2 here in Miami: "All Creatures Great & Small a show 'bout a trio of Veterinary Drs "somewhere in beautiful English countryside that would cater to all sorts of critters w/much care & love" for yrs & regret to say my current busy lifestyle has kept me away from TV & now 'cell "50/50" but probably if I search/ltd internet might find it for if you like "old homestyle country living" I highly recommend it. Thank you all.

Pat’s first priority is, and always has been, for the animals in his care and those that still need to be rescued. His sanctuary was critical in rescuing 20 some lions from Bolivia in 2011, 70 some big cats from Tiger King’s zoo, and so many more stories.

I live not too far from The Wild Animal Sanctuary, and I highly recommend that if anyone is travelling to Colorado, if they have the time, to visit here. It is unique and quite different from any zoo that people are used to in that because you see these animals from above (a 30’ high walkway) or from a distance, you will also see them acting as they normally would in their native environments. This sanctuary is also about education as to why adopting wild animals as baby pets is a very bad idea that never works well for either humans or pets. It is a truly special and unique place, and what Pat Craig has built and shaped is incredible, as is his too big heart. One thing where people can make a huge difference is that operating such a facility is vey expensive every day. I know that everyone wants your money, and money is tight right now, but just because inflation is up and finances are tight does not mean that these animals eat any less or need less care. Just hard facts here. If you can find this in your heart anywhere, Pat and all of his animals and people (mostly volunteers) would certainly appreciate your help. Pat himself lives a very modest and humble life, unlike so many who would put their level of comfort first.

I rescued a small Chihuhua mix from a chick that had been raided. This ooooold dog had been used as a breeder. She was blind, suffering from pyometra (massive uterine infection), toothless, head injury she survived, but left her "not quite right" (she wandered-supervised), starving, toenails curled clear back to her pads, and the start of 2 mammary lumps. I eventually got her emergency spay (EXPENSIVE!!). The freak used to toss the little dog dry kibble. A dog with NO TEETH. This Chi lived 19 more months. Passed away from cancer. This chick that had her before, had her property raided for all the animals, before I rescued the one dog. I saw the property, and how she had been keeping them. Grocery carts with chains used for ferrets, stacks of cages used for other small animals, PILES of cat poop, 2 dead cats (starved), had been a horse at one point which I think got seized alive (no bones of a horse). This freak has been wandering around town, sleeping in garages of whoever doesnt know her history. Contacted her family in Arizona, because squatters took over her property, but they wanted nothing to do with her. Can I even BEGIN to explain how much I HATE DRUGS?!? This is Alamogordo, New Mexico.

It's important to know that the majority of modern American zoos are accredited and well managed with a priority on the animals' well being. Many are involved in SSP "Species Survival Plan" programs for breeding of endangered species. When animals in captive management are euthanized nowadays, it is typically for advanced disease that can no longer be managed with veterinary treatment. Usually old age related issues. There should be a third category of animals besides "Wild" and "Domesticated". Animals born and raised in captive management are neither. The are: "Never Been Wild" non domesticated animals. They only know the comfort and safety of human provision without the stresses of survival in the wild. (Read chapter 4 of Yann Martel's novel: "Life of Pi") Kudos to this man for providing sanctuary for these animals that did not have appropriate management prior.
