My first listen through of this album was like the first time I met my best friend. As a 44 year old dude, this brings back so many good vibes from coop and basement shows in the 90s. Every song feels like I've been listening to it for 30 years, yet they're so fresh, and so wonderfully resonant in their message. To anyone reading this: I love you.

I can imagine that it is not easy to put out something like this. Especially after some of the mixed reviews on the last album, it would have been understandable for them to go back to something more "traditionally hardcore". I respect the hell out of their decision to move forward to something even more "untraditional", not only sound-wise but also in the visuals here. I'm super excited about this and whatever comes next.

tfw when you rely on reviews to enjoy art. reviews matter if a project/art/output is made for commerciality. as far as i am concerned, turnstile did it for the love of the music and the community, not to please some outsider ears aka the guardian and pitchfork or whatever.

@@moveforwardsidebyside did I say I rely on reviews to enjoy art? No, I said the exact opposite. I just wanted to express that it would be understandable for a band to go back to a more traditional approach to hardcore after receiving some backlash (from critics but also fans) and I commend them for not doing that, because music isn't about catering to expectations, be it from critics or fans, it's about doing whatever tf you want.

Undeniably innovative and barrier breaking. I grew up with Minor Threat, Misfits, Pistols, Black Flag, Agnostic, DK, and metal, etc. Few bands have gotten me this excited for new music for a long time. As much as I like heavy hardcore and metal, today's hardcore scene with gore vocals leaves me indifferent. Copy/Paste. This. This is mind-blowing. Art. The Shape of Punk to Come... Relationship of Command... I wish that 2 years from now I'll be able to say it was the Smells Like Teen Spirit of this generation. It would feel so good. Un. Fucking. Real. Thank you.

It's definitely can fun but it can also be so light that it gets pretty forgettable. Nothing they did here was truly amazing and honestly alot of it was just filler lo-fi beats or interludes. In a scene where most bands have become blend and generic, TS manages to refresh their sound at every release. Their music is very contemporary in the sense that they don’t treat their music as being hardcore music,, they treat their music simply as music, without limitations or barriers. On another note, they know how to bring positivity back into their sound, something that disappeared off the radar since the 90’s in hardcore music. It feels good and refreshing. Sorry if you didn’t fully appreciate what they’re doing here.
@RockyPondProductions
3 жыл бұрын
@@ourielzeboulon If you truly analyze and critique it outside of being a fan it just does not hold up to the standards that this comment section is giving it. The fact that they are exploring things past hardcore and probably don't want to be labeled as hardcore anymore is fine. There are many sounds out there that are fantastic that are not hardcore. It's not an issue of "oh they are not hardcore enough anymore" it's just that the whole idea of them doing something super innovative and unique is totally off base. They are not the first band to come from a small core scene and groom their sound into something more palatable and different, they are not even more fun sounding than a lot of other bands. Nothing here is jumping off the page as something totally unique and for some reason people forget the countless times bands have gone in this direction (not 100% sonically but definitely in spirit & ideology). Honestly, there is probably 5 to 6 min max of music in an 11 minute ep. It's nearly impossible to say something is so pivotal at this length, there just is not much here. Like I said, it's fun, entertaining and worth giving a listen but it falls short on aspirations of being some sort of pivotal piece of music like this admittedly biased comment section believes.

"untraditional" for modern hardcore but this is actually retro AF. Bands were experimenting with these sounds in the late 80s/early 90s. It's cool to hear a modernized take on it, this is pretty dope.

Agree. I hear fugazi, into another, quicksand, maybe a little GB, give, lungfish, iceburn... it's nothing new but it's a great mix

Turnstile is a freaking oasis in these mad times we live in. I wish one day to experience this band live with my son. Bring these dudes to Scotland for a lesson on how hardcore should be like

They were in Glasgow right before everything locked down. Don't think they're hitting Scotland this year but they'll be in and around Southern England in a few weeks and for festivals later in the year

Now it's a holiday Now it's a holiday Make a little room, I wanna free up from the vine I wanna celebrate Close enough to feel and now it's time to disappear I wanna celebrate So I can never feel the cold I can never feel the cold I can never feel the cold I can never feel the cold Now it's a holiday Now it's a holiday Too bright to live, too bright to die I wanna celebrate Beauty is built not from outside And I imagine it So I can never feel the cold I can never feel the cold I can never feel the cold I can never feel the cold And I can sail with no direction And I can sail with no direction And I can sail with no direction And I can sail with no direction And I can sail with no direction What? And I can say with no direction (hey) And I can say with no direction (yeah) I can say with no direction (hey) I can say with no direction Like it's a holiday
