I agree that the Shadow Temple in OoT has similarities to TR, but I also notice that TR has some similarities to the Spirit Temple: Both have the following in common: -Both are the penultimate dungeon before Ganon's Castle/Tower -Both have the Mirror Shield -Both have a boss that use the elements of fire and ice, with both also having two phases -Exits that lead to an item(like the Heart Piece in TR, or the MS and Silver Gauntlets in the ST)

Links awakening had so many mario enemies because it was a dream. They wanted to push you off center and give you the idea that this is not normal.

Turtle rock is so great!!! Not just because turtles are great 😝 rad music tho 👍🏼👍🏼 I felt like the rocky appearance works because turtle rock is technically a giant cave. Love the little chutes lol 😋 2D games really are great, I agree with Pixel that it would be awesome to get a new one! I really like the structure here, it helps it feel less restrictive imo. The boss in this dungeon is pretty cool! I honestly love his lil tail 😋 the fire and ice mechanic is definitely fun and interesting, forcing you to manage your magic well, and the second phase is good for doing damage! Good stuff ☺️ another great analysis video! It was cool that you got someone to come talk about it with you too 😊 looking forward to the next one!!

12:57 In my case, I didn't even know you could deflect from the side with your shield like that. I've played this game for decades. In my case, I generally Dash with the Pegasus Boots to get to each chest. I would always just take damage when walking away from the chest. When done, I would dash all the way back. The great thing with the Pegasus Boots is if you change Link's direction while Dashing, he immediately stops Dashing and starts walking in the new direction. When you do your Ganon's Tower dungeon video, could you talk a little bit about those stylized green Triforce emblems hanging up in the tower? What I find interesting about ALTTP, is that Hyrule Castle doesn't have any Triforce decorations, but Ganon's Tower does and so does the final battle arena in the Pyramid of Power.

It’s highly recommended that you also max out your Master Sword before you tackle Turtle Rock. You can get the gold sword early, because you only need to beat ice palace and misery mire to unlock it, just like the silver arrows. Go out of order a bit, and you can use the gold sword in other dungeons. It makes quicker work out of Trinexx, saving you some magic.

Turtle Rock has always been interesting to me. I typically hate recycled elements but it always felt interesting that it was simply a cave, but had all of these unique yet somewhat disparate elements to it. It reminds me somewhat in a way of Deep Dark Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy. Pretty standard in layout but lots of interesting, unique, yet also disparate elements.

Maybe you could have the cane of Somalia in the dungeon if you had to got to the middle floor first via the random caves on death mountain. It could require a section of the first floor to open the outside entrance so it still requires you to see the cool turtle entrance first. You would have to make a side path too. I think the mirror shield would also work in misery mire if they added the eye things before that boss, and made it rely on the mirror.

I really think they could've enhanced the experience by terminating the music when descending to the bottom level. Imagine the atmosphere created from the silence of an empty room, followed immediately by the boss music when entering the next room?

I've literally been playing this game for almost 30 years. I've beaten it no less than 15 times and somehow I never figured out that you could deflect the beams the way you did in this video. I always just got hit like an idiot walking away from that chest.

I think this is the only dungeon where I never get the compass. I get that key in the northeast room and go straight downstairs. I love Turtle Rock, it's such a great dungeon. Though the room where you are on a ride through the knot of pathways near the end always annoys me. The limited field of vision, the fact that you have limited control, and the spinning firebars can leave you needing hearts badly, or just end your run with a few mistakes, or moments of bad luck.

I always thought the Boss's name was pronounced Tri-Necks because of the three head design. I struggled so hard on this dungeon as a kid. I was like in 1st or 2nd grade at the time.

That probably is pronounced that way, that’s the way Pixel says it in the video as well. I’ve just always said it this way and I can’t break old habits I guess hahah

Great vid Cap! But I have a question for when you eventually get to ToTK’s dungeon design - will you take the leadups into account? Imo the Water Temple and Wind Temple aren’t really complete without their linear preceding sky islands.

Funny detail about the silver arrows one-shotting bosses - for all of its uselessness, Vitreous has by far the most health of any non-Ganon boss. I saw some article where its health is listed as over 200, while the nearest runner up is in the low double digits. So now I'm wondering if it also gets oneshot if you were to hack in the arrows before fighting it.
@irontail06

The answer is actually NO. I just played a randomizer wherein this exact thing happened, and pelted it with about four silver arrows before going back to the golden sword to kill him. Vitreous seems to have no “critical damage” case. Also worth mentioning- Mothula is 100% immune to silver arrows

i used to hate this dungeon but then i realized it actually has some pretty good single room puzzles. i am convinced the dark room was supposed to have shooters instead of flame bars and trinexx needing the ice rod i cannot defend. honestly i do think it should have had the layout changed to make somaria the item while the mirror shield for misery mire. the gba port did fix one flaw where if you run out of magic, it drops small magic jar.

The game has been out for over a year, and this is a Zelda focused KZitem channel. The clips I show (which are SUPER brief) are both from the tutorial area of the game, spoil nothing, and are only shown when Tears of the Kingdom is directly mentioned. We're not in the launch window of the game anymore, we're past the point of spoiler warnings etc, sorry

In all reality you don't technically need the Cane of Somaria. But that's only if you can preform one of the more difficult glitches called hovering... which you'll need to do a lot.
@CaptBurgerson
Жыл бұрын
I don't usually take glitches into account when talking about level design, because it isn't the developer intention behind the design. Heck, if we start taking these into the discussion, technically you can skip from Hyrule Castle straight to Ganon by clipping through walls. That's just not what these videos are about
