Shedding of the skin and shell scutes is a common occurrence in aquatic turtles, so no need to worry! In this Turtle 101 video, we'll cover what shedding is, how it works, and what you should do to help it along! Turtles are reptiles, so they must shed their skin to allow growth and healthy skin. Turtles also have shells, so they shed portions of the outer layer of the shell, called "scutes". It can happen as frequently as a few times a year for growing turtles to just once or twice every two years for fully grown adults.
To help shedding, you can do a few things:
- Supplement their diet with a pellet high in vitamin E and A (I use Hikari Wheat Germ 👉 amzn.to/2j3yhyD)

- Take them outside for real uvB. Make sure you always supervise them!
- Gently brush their shell with a soft bristled toothbrush
