TAHSIS - The mayor of this tiny North Island village continues to be plagued by criticism over a failed summer music festival but the outfall is spreading to others in the community as well. A group of residents faught unsuccessfully to prevent a two day heavy metal music festival from taking place in the village in August and are now blaming the mayor for financial losses the event suffered.
Mayor Corrine Dahling was enthusiastic about the "Pillage in the Village" festival, promoting it as a way to draw young people to the village. The mayor is blaming court action brought by some residents as a reason many people stayed away from the event.
At least one business owner in the community is indicating his cafe is now being boycotted by locals who were against the festival. Meanwhile many of those who signed a petition against the event say they are being refused service at the community's only gas station which is owned by the mayor and her husband.
Mayor Dahling is hoping the community will start working together for the betterment of the community.
