Is your black undercoat a spray or do you do a layer of base paint? Also do you water any of the paints down when applying by sponge or is it a straight mix from the pot? Thanks 👍

sorry to comment on such an old video and expect a response but how do you make sure you get the same mixture of paints every time? (e.g. 2:3 ratio of kabalite green - abadon black) do you use a pipette or do you just eyeball it?
@TheGingerMiniPainterStudio
2 жыл бұрын
Painting is not an exact science, so it is only roughly 2:3 mix. It is just to explain that this is a color that is a darker than straight Kabalite green. If you make a 1:1 mix it would probably work too.

Nice Tutorial I may give this a go! Could I ask what kind of sponge you're using to apply the paint?
@TheGingerMiniPainterStudio

It is just a regular synthetic sponge. I found one with all random size air pockets in it, to help make the effect even more random.

Are you applying the sponge while the previous layer is still wet?

Found you through the Quodd Heroes painting stream on Twitch. Quick word of advice: maybe try to get a nice shot of the finished thing in good light at the end. Helps appreciating the final result and makes for a great thumbnail.

After searching a plethora of videos, I finally found this one and it’s perfect! I had a concept idea for Age of Sigmar Stormcast Eternals with bronze armor and a type of jade or green marble cloth/cloaks.... your technique and colors matched wonderfully. Awesome video!

I see there's a mix of artists who use either black or white as a base color. Have you tried white as well? Are there advantages to one or the other? I'm shooting for using a flat black myself but I'm always wanting to learn and try new techniques. Thanks for the vid, it makes me less scared to try this myself lol

I normally prime everything in black and then give it an overall pre-shade/zenithal highlight. This helps me to pick out all the details from the beginning. But black has a tendency to dull down the colours. So if you want to paint something that should have really bright colours, you should go for a white primer. Alternatively you could still do a zenithal highlight by priming in a grey/light grey and then spray it from above with white. That way you can keep some of the vibrancy in you colours, but you still get a subtle pre-shade. Hope it make sense. I'm planning to do a lot more tutorials in the future, starting very soon now. And this priming/pre-shading thing is probably the first tutorial I will do :)

@@TheGingerMiniPainterStudio That answers my question and then some lol. I'm gonna be doing picture frames in a green marble to match the flooring in my bathroom and it's not too light but not really dark either. A gray may be the way to go but I like the way yours has turned out. Just have to test it. Thanks so much for the reply and the video!

@@AlweeNBoo Maybe test it out on a scrap piece of wood. Paint some of it black, some of it white and some grey and then test the technique on that. That way you don't have to strip the frames from paint if it does not work out in the first go :)
