this is exactly what I needed. The way you explained and showed with the "X" helped me understand.

I know this is an old video but… I use a combination of slow drying paints, open line from golden, along with their open thinner, open medium, open gel and, with regular acrylics, I may use some retarder. The best part is the paint on the sealed palette can be used for a couple of weeks and may just need a drop of thinner to get back to workable. I get a range of working times by varying what I use and what ratios I mix. Worth mentioning, I never use water. After using the various mediums and additives I don’t like water.

Can you use this medium between layers, for e.g. can I start with plain acrylic and water, then use this on the next layer, then do a wash of watered down acrylic in another layer, or is it best as a final layer? I'm wondering if it affects adhesion at all. Many thanks, Becca x
@Citystationerygroup

Yes you can use this in between layers, the slow drying medium doesn't affect adhesion, it just slows the drying process

Watching this in 2020, hopefully you'll see my question and answer it :) If you use slow dri medium, is it necessary to apply gesso to your pre-primed canvas?
@Citystationerygroup

Hello, if your canvas is already pre-primed , you do not need to re-apply gesso. ☺️

@@Citystationerygroup Thanks. My usual struggle, other than the super fast drying time, is that the paint seems to be stuck in one area and doesn't want to spread. This makes me use a lot of paint that I thought to myself, "There's got to be a better way!".
@Citystationerygroup

Indeed the paste consistency of acrylics makes spreading the paint hard, you need to thin the paint using a medium to be able to comfortably work. If drying time is not an issue you can use acrylic painting medium to thin it or a small amount of water. But water tends to weaken the paint.

I used to just use acrylics with water. Hated how quick it dried so moved on to oils. Then I heard you can get slow drying mediums for acrylics & thought it was worth checking out... But tbh, if it changes the drying time from 3-4 mins, to roughly 8 mins I really don't see the point in it.

This is not impressive at all. I have the Liquitex slow-dri medium and it lasted for an hour and a half with just a couple of drops
