Thanks mate. Good explanation. I don't really get one thing, from the theory in general. We are talking about non parametric tests... so how do you get r, more specifically z-score ? Z-score is calculated using means, right? mean in a sense of normally distributed data... so not normal data, no reliable mean, no z-score... no r, right?

Could you provide the reference of Grissom and Kim 2012? Also, could you recommend a formula to calculate effect size for non parametric data in a pre-test, post-test design with experimental and control groups?

Wouldn't it just be a withing group design effect size ?
