Very wise choice to use a continuous placket instead of a tower placket. Since you have so much gathering in the sleeve, you want something with less bulk that blends into it rather than standing out and adding weight.

Beautiful, Whitney. Might you be willing to show us this Aria a little closer up at some point so that we can really see how the tie and sleeves look a little better? Perhaps on Lana? You probably plan to do that, but I’d really like to see the sleeve in closer action. Thanks again for another great video.

Always a nugget to grab. I struggle with gathering so to do a long continuous basting stitch like a rectangle sounds like a tip that may be helpful to me. Thanks Whitney!

It has helped me tremendously as I'm no longer accidentally pulling one the threads completely through when doing the gathering!

Excited about this sleeve design. I can't hardly wait to try my own sleeve modification. ~ L Whitney: Here's a quick thought for another type of hack--the modification of the Turtleneck Collar: *Ruching of Turtleneck* 1. Cut fabric for the Turtleneck Collar 12.25" tall (single layer, cut 1) times the Neck circumference measurement (perhaps 27.5" ~ or so). {Plan to sew Seam at Back Center Neck; so add 1/2" for 1/4" Seam Allowance.} Collar piece should measure About 12.25" by 27.5" (but measure your pattern's Neck circumference!!!!) [Note: can be cut on Fold: 6.125" x 27.75"] 2. HOWEVER, while Collar piece is flat: MARK Collar piece for *Shoulder Seams (the two raw edges at BOTH Shoulder Seam Allowances--four (4) MARKs)* [Note: --of which will be matching to at the Neck's Front & Back Shoulder Seam.] 3. BUT here's the sweet modification: Using either two lines of elastic thread (or 1/8" Elastic) SEW A LINE OF ELASTIC FROM *MARKed Shoulder Seam to MARKed Shoulder Seam* across the full width of Turtleneck Collar piece. Note: You will sew two lines of stretched Elastic [12.25" TWICE]--one at Left Shoulder MARKs and one on Right Shoulder MARKs. [12.25" AT EACH Shoulder]. Note: REF: photo on FaceBook/Eva Lucille Dixon. [One reason I do not like KZitem is we can't share photos; am I right? I wish I could post a photo; I am sorry.] 4. Then sew 1/4" Seam Allowance at Back Center Neck. AND fold Collar, matching the lines of ELASTIC at raw edges. Baste where raw edges are even. 5. Sew the Turtleneck Collar into the Neck as normal, matching Shoulder Seam Allowances. --What you get is a Ruching of Turtleneck Collar that is not folded when worn. Boom: Ruching of Turtleneck Collar. You will love to wear this when the cold winter wind blows. ~ L

I like your new haircut: very current and sophisticated ! In your previous video, you didn’t mention if you had pre-treated the silk dupioni for your daughter’s gorgeous homecoming dress. Can it be hand washed or is it a fabric that needs to go to the dry cleaner ? Thanks in advance !
@TomKatStitchery
Жыл бұрын
I totally forgot to mention that! I washed it on delicate with a delicate soap and then put it in the dryer (I serged the cut edges before doing this or the whole thing would have unraveled!). After a quick press of the yardage it was ready to cut out. While this changes the hand of the fabric slightly, it makes it washable so I always wash my silk!

When you gather the bottom sleeve into the cuff, won't the slit end up closer to the side seam than the 3" on the original pattern? Did you just not gather the first 3" from the side seam?
@TomKatStitchery
Жыл бұрын
While I did gather the entire bottom, I just didn't pull the gathers as tightly at the placket so that it sits just to the back of my arm!
