Problem for me with 802.3ad LACP on my Diskstations was always that Wake-on-Lan doesn't work, tested with Managed Switches from Zyxel and Unifi so far. AFAIK it is due to the dynamic nature of LACP that WoL doesn't work. Therefore I'm still using Active Load Balancing... got a DS218+ for 24/7, my DS2517+ is only powered on a couple of hours per week per schedule or when needed on demand. To not have the ability to power a NAS remotely up by WoL is a big NoGo for me (as a home user) .

Is the unifi switch directly cable connected to the Wifi router plan port? What happens if the DS 1621xs+ is directly connected to the Wifi router plan port and could it be still set up LAC?

Maybe you said this and I missed it, but was the 10Gb interface linking at 10Gb prior to being part of the LACP group? If not, what changes if it is? It looks like in the Synology it says the group is capable of 3Gbps when they're all connected, but I'm curious if it would stay at 3Gbps if the 10Gb was linking at 10Gb or if it would go to 12Gbps.

you will still only have a 10Gb and a 1Gb and a 1Gb link. The switch can just be smart about how to use these links. If you just have one 1Gb link to your switch and 3 users are all trying to max out the connection to the NAS, the three users are sharing that 1Gb bandwidth, so 0.333Gbit each. When you enable LACP, the switch can direct the three users to their own or the lest saturated port in the group. So for example if you have three 1Gb links, user 1 can be directed to port one with full 1Gbit, user two can be directed to port two with full 1Gbit and user three can be directed to port three with full 1Gbit. "Throughput Throughput testing with one host to another single host will not show improvements. The hashing algorithm that is used for LACP does not split data streams on single host-to-host connections. To see improvements in throughput multiple hosts would have to be passing traffic at the same time. " help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007279753-UniFi-USW-Configuring-Link-Aggregation-Groups-LAG-

What happens if you have two ports, they are bonded as LACP, and the switch doesn't support LACP. Does this require a full reset/reload?
@psycl0ptic
2 жыл бұрын
Should be fine to combine 10GB and 1GB in LACP, as long as it is supported by both devices in the link. also mixing fiber or DAC links and ethernet links are fine as well, as long as it is supported by the devices in the link.

This is a helpful video, so I have an unmanaged switch DGS 1016A, that supports link aggregation but after the setup process I get "Failed To Establish IEEE 802.3 ad connection" under the network status area. Everything still works; i can access the NAS and its content , but I get that message does that mean link aggregation is not configured? What do you recommend?

Hi 1 question Sir: If i choose balancing (1st option) on the synology side, should I also check my router and try to set it? I dont use a switch between synology ds200+ and my internet router. They are connected to each other with 2 small ethernet cables. Thank you.

Not sure that Synology supports iperf but the results would be each stream get's the full capacity of each link.

If you change the MTU you have to match it on all devices, I would just leave it at default to have less issues.

SMB multi channel gives better bandwidth utilisation and doesn't even require configuration. On a side note, Intel NICs can be configured for LACP/802.3ad using ProSet.

Question on Link AG on the Ubiquiti switch, I have a US 48 port switch and have a DS1815+ with 4 four1gb connections bonded and after I go into the switch and manage the profile for the connection I see the aggregated ports are 45-48 and then I see the next line says Link Speed, do I set that to Autonegotiation ?
