Great idea if you wanted to use the diamond painting as a hot pad, table runner or coaster. I think that from the video it looks as if it takes away from the shine that comes naturally from the facets of the drills. It gives it a beautiful glossy & clear layer. I am not sure that I would do it myself. Thank you for sharing this idea.

@@carolvick5560 Now I want to buy more partials to play around with glitter 😊 I haven't had the Tombow glue start peeling as yet, but it wouldn't surprise me. I frame my favorite DPs under glass or plexi-glass to keep them protected. I'm not sure if there is anything that can really keep the drills stuck on any better than they are. I would think the stickiness would need to come from underneath - that's just my opinion. I bought some Krylon spray-on gloss sealer that I might try on something. I need to get some more of my smaller ones done, so I can try it out. Of course, I don't think any of the drills are going anywhere on the ones I just put resin on 😂😂

I checked into this myself. I watched several video's as well. I really didn't like how everything I saw took away the sparkle and shine of the faceted resin beads. Something that would seal the bottoms where the beads attach to the board, but thin enough so the diamond parts are still exposed and sparkly. Great video.

I have worked with resin for a couple of years. Painters tape does work to clean up your edge and pulls off cleanly. You can let your resin sit for a few minutes and let bubbles come to the surface, then use the torch to get rid of them before you pour. Also, warm the parts of the resin before mixing will reduce the bubbles ( put bottles in a slow cooker with water). Mix gently to reduce the number of bubbles that form. Once the resin dries in the cup you can reuse it. Hope this helps

If you use this technique, you definitely do not need a frame. You can seal both sides if you want to, but it's not necessary. You can hang it up just the way it is. The only thing you might want to do is glue it to foam board or something like that - it doesn't have to be fancy.

I'm making a few to go in my daughters' rooms, but they are still small and I want to make sure they stay safe (both the pictures and the kids). So I’ve not used resin to coat DPs, but I have worked a fair bit with resin and watched a whole lot of resin work. Because I’m going to give some constructive criticism I want to make a point first to say that this video is nice and informative and not overly rushed or cut and was nice to watch. However a couple of things that made me cringe a little was when you used the silicon spatula to spread the mixed resin… the same one you used to scoop the unmixed resin out of the measuring cups. If you hadn’t cleaned it before you used it for spreading then you introduced unmixed resin onto the resin layer which might have interfered with the curing and left some unset patches on the surface. Also if you plan to do more than one coat then you don’t have to wait for it to set… layers of resin adhere better if the coat below is at the gel cured stage… this happens part way between the end of the work time and the set time… if the first coat has fully cured then a second coat may not stick well to the first coat. Also be wary that the thinner the resin coat, the longer the setting and curing times will be. I hope everything worked out though, and the art work is beautiful!!

This will completely change the look of your diamond painting. This would be great to use on diamond paintings that you might want to use as place mats or for some other use than just hanging on the wall. It's kind of fun to experiment 🙂

Hello Grace, the effect was different. What effect did it have on the sparkle of the drills? I think my favorite one was the partial. The two different textures looked cool. I can't imagine how heavy it would be on a big canvas though. It would be a great idea for the stickers though I would think. Jesus bless you and yours,Lin ✝️🐶🐶🐶🐶🐢🐦🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎💖🦒🐧🐲🤗

Hi sweet Lin!! Yes, it did have an effect on the sparkle - it looks like it's under glass, so it sparkles like the resin. I wouldn't put resin on my favorite DPs or my large ones, as I frame those. This was fun to experiment with, and I really do like the way it looks on the partial. I thought it would be fun to do something different with some of my smaller ones, besides hanging them on the wall. Putting it on stickers would be a fantastic idea!! I might try it on keychains too. I want to mix some clear glitter in it and put it on another partial - so much fun to play with this stuff 😁 Take care and God bless you and all of your family!! 💕💖🌺

That turned out really nice although you lose the sparkle. I think maybe how a fine irradiance glitter might look mixed in to add back the sparkle if that is wanted and that it would be really nice if you want to use like in a serving tray or any other type of tray/table instead of hanging on a wall as the resin gives it that durability to do so. That is what is so great about art is that you can make it as you like. 😊

I love this comment!! We can make our art as we like - so true!! I wouldn't do this on my favorite DPs or my large ones, but I think it gives more versatility to these small pieces. Like you said - it can be used in a serving tray, it could also be used to place hot dishes on and who knows what else!! Something besides just hanging all of them on the wall. Thank you so much for your lovely comment - I plan on trying to use irridescent glitter in it to see what it looks like! 😊🌺💖

@@Gingers_Hobby_Corner It's fun thinking of new ways to use these diamond paintings!! I am looking for some more partials to try the glitter on. I gave the little girl one to three-year-old twins to hang in their bedroom. Don't have to worry about them getting it down and pulling drills off and swallowing them 😊 Covering the walls with your diamond paintings sounds like a wonderful plan to me!! You can use resin covered ones to tile the bathroom 😂😂😂

I recently finished my first diamond painting. 50 x 50. I had a frustrating time because the drills kept falling off. I couldn't wait to get it framed and behind acrylic to solve the problem! Only it didn't! To my dismay, the diamonds were falling off inside the frame! :( This may be my option to save it! Thank you Grace.
@gbmaltese

Oh no!!! How frustrating!! This might help you out!! You can try it out - you have nothing to lose at this point!! If you put on a lighter coat of the resin, it will just fill in the spaces between the drills, but if you want the glassy look, put it on like I did. For a 50 x 50, you will need to mix up quite a bit of resin, but it should keep those pesky diamonds down!! Good luck Donna!! 😊💕
