Another point regarding screws, I think, A GOOD PRACTICE WOULD BE to screw back in their place where were screwed, cople of turns. That will prevent falling and loosing them. There will be situations when screwing them back might not be possible.. off course you screw them back after removing the board, the piece that are holding it down. This applies evem when dismatling to many parts on the car. And the benefit as well is that you could not put the part back because the the screws are there.

That is a good idea, although it makes the process slower, it is much safer than either loosing a screw or even worst forcing in a wrong screw on the wrong place.

Thanks for the great video. One of the better ones out there for this problem. Question - do you know if / how you can purchase a new USB connector? Mine has gotten very worn over the year, and if I am going to attempt to fix what I assume is a broken connector, I'd like to have a new one to replace it with.

No problem, you can buy them on eBay but you have to make sure it is an exact match. If not an exact match you will need to cut off some of the mounting poles to make it fit. Here is a link to the one I found on eBay which looks very similar and probably needs minimal to no modification www.ebay.com/itm/133937779645

Good point, I used the Weller WES51 Soldering Station with a factory original stock tip. First I tried narrow pointed tips but it wouldn't get hot enough for this project.

Thank you for your tutorial. Would it be easier to solder wires to the five pins before fixing (soldering) the USB to the PCB?
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
3 жыл бұрын
Sure, but that would depend on how badly your PCB traces have been damaged. For example if you have all 5 connection points damaged then it might be easier to do that. However if you have 3 good points and 2 bad points then I think it is easier to stabilize the connector in place before you solder additional points.

Thank you for your very instructive and detailed video. I have done the repair myself after watching this, but since then, I haven't been able to turn my camera back on. The little red light on the back is the only thing that comes on when switched on. I have dissembled it again, check all the cables, but I couldn't notice anything wrong. Do you have any advice? Thanks again!
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101

I don't think you have the cables wrong, I think that you must have bridge the Main board somewhere with solder. So look for solder bridges around the area where you worked to fix the USB Port. Also check to see the USB port itself for solder bridges. Last but not leas check to see if a drop of solder didn't go elsewhere on the motherboard. Make sure to use a strong magnifying glass to detect small solder bridges that aren't visible to naked eye.

Now, my real question, as a specialist, because you had the part, connector in your hand, do you know what type of connector will suffice/fit there as I do have a Canon 5d Mark II but that connevtor is faulty actually inside, lokks like someone chew the inside of it.

You can get the exact one from Aliexpress.com, but you can get a similar one which requires some minor modifications from eBay. From example www.ebay.com/itm/164485862588

i have a t2i that i haven't used in a long time, and now the usb cable recognizes but quickly stops working. I think it must be something similar to your problem, I'll open it later today and try to solder just like you
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101

Yes that could be the problem, also make sure all the following is good before you take the camera apart. 1. Make sure the USB cable is good and not defective 2. Make sure the USB Port on the computer is good, try another USB Port if you are not sure 3. Make sure the computer has all the USB Drivers installed for this camera

I have a T2i and thought it was the USB port. i took it apart. its not loose. Tight to the board and the connections in the back connecting to the board are still there. Im not sure what it is. But where would i get a new chip board? Ebay? another Canon T2i being sold for parts??
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101

Yes eBay is the best option to get parts for it, but don't buy another defective one, because it could have the same problem. You should instead buy one without the lens they are much cheaper. For example here is one at a starting bid of $65 www.ebay.com/itm/185528692969
