Good video Tim! This gets the foundation set for all the good stuff to come. The initial setup is a lot of work for anyone. But once thats created I can see the benefits of quickly setting up new projects. Looking forward to the next couple of videos on this Parametric work flow!

This is awesome, thank you for posting. Excited for the next video. I started playing with some of this and did something neat. Instead of having 3 components for part position, I just made 1. I made a parameter for "PartPosition" where you can enter an expression "left" "right" "center" , with user parameters for each, where the value for each of those parameters is the X location of each joint origin. Rename each joint origin to its respective position.. left, right , center, etc. So when you change "PartPosition" parameter, it will move the location of the joint to wherever you want it located! :) This could be neat if you had a subplate, you can easily name each point (with a joint origin at each) after its alphanumeric position on the plate, and drive a WCS value. But, as far as I can tell, you cannot link expressions / variables/ parameters across the design and manufacturing workspaces.

Fantastic video. Using offsets to move rigid joints is something I never thought of.

It was a total game changer for me. It was what I considered a road blocker in making CAM Assemblies 3-4 years ago before they added them. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi, Thanks for the great video. I do wander - circa 24:40 you position the stock to be centered in the vice... and though I know this is not a fusion Q, I do find it to be related and on topic - how would you position the actual physical stock to be centered like this? or would it actually not matter because you remove material all around it?

Does it matter if its a XT FILE OR STEP FILE?
@adskFusion

It doesn't really matter which format you import. Fusion 360 can bring in quite a few different formats. If it were me, I would probably lean toward the STEP format as it tends to be a bit more universal.

No. Someone may have a super geeky reason why something may matter, but I use XT and STEP ALL the time with no noticeable difference.

I don't believe there was a follow up to this. Any specific questions I can pass along to the creator?

@@adskFusion No specific question as of now, I guess I can find some other tutorial showing how to bring such a setup over to my project. I asked just because Tim promised to show how he is using it and I was curious.

@@adskFusion I found those. And some other wise related videos. But I still can't figure out how Tim makes use of those parametric stocks defined here when using them within a part project. Changing the params in the part project does not update the jaws, for example.
