Hi @ Spry, as you know I build ficticious maps that I just make up as I go along that take 100's of hours to create. But Doing real world replication is on another scale. I hope you get the recognition and channel growth that you deserve for all these efforts. Looking forward to the next series.😃

Your maps are mad!!! I love them but I can't create landforms from a blank canvas... which is why I steal them from reality! The real world part also loses a lot once the AI starts playing wit the towns... after all, it's not Cities Skylines LOL But never the less... Hopefully, I still end up with a reasonable approximation. Thanks for your encouragement mate - much appreciated! Cheers

I was looking at the mods you had installed for the map generation, and I have all of them except a mod called Alle Maltools, so I would just like to ask you if you can tell me what that mod is, and what it does I have done a search for it, but cannot find it anywhere.

Hey Shaun... that was a hard one to find again LOL... but finally realised I can click on SOURCE in the initial settings to go straight to it - DER! Here you go... adds a lot more paint textures to the game : Mal Tool (Includet Tropical, USA) steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1973148055

Goodness, the map already looks lovely. Will the map or save game be available at any time during this series?

@@saspry is there actually a "logical" way to work out the Min and Max height of TPF 2 map editor from the City Skyline's map generator??? Hahahaha spent hours adjust the values, the whole time me, myself and I were arguing with each other
@saspry
Жыл бұрын
First make sure you set the Base Level (03:50) to the Min. Height shown and use that figure when you import the map into TF2 and set the lower Range figure. The higher Range figure is, at least, the Mac Height shown in the map generator... but as you saw, the vertical exaggeration is likely to be at least 150%-200% of the original - so that is: (Max Height - Min Height) X 1.5 Yes... there's a lot of fiddling around at this point, but if you work with known contour values from the original map... you should get there eventually! Good luck to all three of you ;)

Good day, sir MGN. Might I suggest watching the hundreds of TPF 2 map tutorials on KZitem that "Timelapse the boring details" along with how to actually create their beauty maps!!! However, different strokes for different folks and whatever floats your goat. Kind regards

Yes, there are lots of TF2 tutorials on KZitem... But if so, why am I re-inventing the wheel by doing my own? Probably because IMHO those "other" vids are either: too old and out of date; or poorly done from an educational standpoint. Besides... time lapses with NO discussion of WTF the person is doing, or trying to achieve, are not good edutainment and to be totally honest... a waste of time and space :) Thanks for your comment!

say i was wanting a 1:4 scale map do i still use the 3 across tiles is it now 2 wanted to make a large 1:4 7x28km

Hi MrC - first up - what console are you on? Apparently, only XBox and PS5 can do a large map??? Is that correct? Second... if you want a large map, then adjust the map size in the generator to 28km. Then position the grid where you want - at this 1:4 ratio, you'd only be using 2.25 squares across (a quarter of 9). Save the map, then in your picture editor - resize so that it is 7169 px square, and then crop it to be 1793px wide so it includes your chosen area. And then save it :) That should take care of that part :)

damn i gave up followed every step but the game was saying error see console had a look says its not a greyscale image but it is and 16bit size is correct too. i havent got a clue what the issue is

Hmmm... me neither. Can you actually LOAD any other map into the map editor? If so... can your map initially be created on a PC by someone and brought across as a saved map file to be opened in the editor for further work??? I'm guessing you've worked where the files might all live on your console??? LOL :) Let me know. This could be interesting...

As you are using console on PC - so it should work!!! Must be something wrong with the format of the image file you altered then...:)

It's loading ok now still flat as a pancake I think it's been changed trying to get the grey scale working because it should look like yours pretty much mean I've placed it over Durham city and it's got some steep hills and valleys

Glad you got that image bit sorted mate :) Now to deal with the vertical exaggeration problem... two part problem - first in the generator try the height scale @ 150% or maybe even 175% and save/edit/use that height map. Second - make sure the RANGE is set properly in the map editor.. Give it MORE of the higher figure. Good luck! It is a PITA doing all of this, and trying different settings... I think the map generator is really not meant be used with TF2 without a lot of image tweaking... but eventually you get something that looks OK.
